Most people think the cucco is just a chicken. It's not (Or is it?). The true origin of it is a much darker tale. To truly understand how it came to be, we have to go to the time of the Golden Goddesses. Most people believe there were only three Golden Goddesses. There were four. Everyone knows the tale (Or you should if you're reading a Zelda fanfic) . Din, the goddess of power, created the earth. Nayru, the goddess of wisdom, created order. Farore, the goddess of courage, created all life, except for various other beings. The fourth goddess was named Locara. She was crazy. She created a few, um, special things in Hyrule. She created the Great Fairies (Why? They look so weird!). She created Ghirahim (So fabulous). She also created Groose's hair (How? Like how do you get hair so good?). She made Zant's helmet (What is it? A fish?) . She raised Tingle (That explains a lot!). She created the CD-I Zelda games (How did she create them when she isn't in the same universe as them? I don't know). But the thing she is most notoriously known for (Even though she's unknown) creating was the cucco. She got a chicken (Yes, there are real chickens in Hyrule, or at least there was) and put an egg in it. Yes. She literally put a chicken egg into a chicken (Why? I'll get to that later) . Then she made all the chickens have an egg inside. Then, she made them be overly protective about the egg inside of them. She made it so they would attack anyone who tried to kill the egg inside them, even if they don't know about the egg. She also made everybody forget about the chicken and only remember the cucco. When someone was finally able to dissect a cucco, they found an egg and everything made sense to them except one thing, the reason that Locara made the cucco. Before this, the always assumed that the cucco was created and laid eggs, which was true, but they believed that in that order. Now, they have to ask themselves the question. Which came first: the cucco or the egg?
