I just had to do something fluffy. there is a bit of Holix weaved into this. Six's POV. Enjoy!
A Gentle Nudge
I stood beside Holiday, looking out at the Keep. White wanted to see how well Rex would do without my being there to assist him. He sent the eleven year old out on a relatively easy mission by my standards. It wouldn't be so easy for the kid, though. He was still learning to perfect his abilities.
And for once, I was scared.
Of what? I really don't know. If he gets killed, I'll be the one to blame, not White. If he gets hurt, I'll blame myself. Or just because he's out there on the field without my help...or protection...
"Rex's going to be fine." Holiday tried to reassure me.
"I know." I said in my usual stoic tone. But I wasn't very confident in that staement. I went against White's orders and put my finger to the comm link in my ear. "Rex, is everything alright?" Holiday looked at me in amazement.
"Not too good, Six. I kinda need some help." Rex responded. I heard some crashing in the background. I winced when I heard Rex yelp in pain.
"I can't help you this time, Rex. You're on your own." I farrowed my eyebrows and pushed my sunglasses back up. It was a nervous tick.
"Oh yeah, that's right..." You could hear the fear in his voice not matter how hard he tried to hide it.
"You can do it, kid." After that I ended the connection. I could feel Holiday looking at me. I turned my head slightly so I could look into her eyes. They often reminded me of my favorite childhood meadow. Bright green and full. I could stare into her eyes for the rest of eternity and still not reach the core. The sheer beauty of them...
"You've taken one step forward, Six. One step forward." She made to bold move of putting her arm around my waist. I'm not the touch-feely type of person. She knows that, too. Most people stayed clear of me. Most.
Before I even realized it, my arm was around her shoulders, pulling her closer to me. She gave no protest and went along with it. The warmth of her body against mine was almost intoxicating...that was exactly when the simple thought of Rex possibly getting hurt on that mission hit me. I pulled a bit away from Holiday, tensing up.
"I told you, he's going to be fine! You need to be more optimistic, Six." Holiday shook her head.
"Sometimes I can't help it, Doctor Holiday." After maybe 30 minutes passed with just us standing there looking at the Keep, we heard the door slid open. I turned around to see who it was. Rex.
"Oh...am I interupting something?" He looked at the both of us with wide eyes.
"Yes you were. But I need to see if you got yourself hurt on that solitary mission." Holiday let go of me and led Rex over to his examination table. I silently followed and stood behind Holiday as she dabbed at a few cuts on Rex's face. The kid looked up at me.
"Thanks." I knew what he was talking about.
Later I found some footage from the media on Rex fight. He did remarkably well after he put a finger to the comm link. To be honest, I'm proud of him.
A gentle nudge. That's all it took.
That was so much fun! Don't forget to review so I can know how I did!
Peace!
