Andromeda left her family to marry Ted. Indirectly, she sacrificed her old life to give life to her daughter. This is what Tonks thinks as she cradles a sleeping Teddy, the bang of Remus's disapparation still ringing in her ears.
Teddy's hair is brilliant turquoise. There is dried drool on his chin and his face is screwed up in sleep. He is the most beautiful sight Tonks has ever seen.
When Remus married her she thought it would be impossible to love anyone more than she did him. Then they placed the tiny, screaming baby in her arms.
Remus wants her to stay behind and stay safe, for Teddy's sake and for her own. She imagines her son growing up an orphan. She imagines her son growing up fatherless, in a world ruled by Voldemort.
Andromeda sobs as Tonks hands Teddy to her. She begins mourning her daughter as they say goodbye.
