She watches him with curiosity, with a mix of uneasiness. Not that she doesn't know that he wouldn't get results, it still goes against everything she was taught to believe. The nontraditional ways of Jane puts her ill at ease, but she can live with that. He closes cases, and that's all that matters to her.
They put criminals in jail. They give the victim's families a peace of mind. They give them answers, more answers than they would if they didn't have Jane. Lisbon knows that. So, she puts her peace of mind away. And she lives in the spotlight, the spotlight of scorn from others.
She grew up in a hostile area, plus she was once a teenage girl. You could say that she knows how to handle herself with both her words and her fists. Not that she brags about it, but she has incredible power. The power of brute strength, the power of words, the power of persuasion.
Yes, she has the power of persuasion. Just like Jane does. She doesn't know her affect on people, though. She uses it, and she believes it works just because of Jane. Just because everyone knows that they will get the job done. She was wrong, and everyone else saw it.
Including Jane. Jane knows how powerful Lisbon truly is. To go through tragedy, and still feel. To be a mother hen still, even when she knows that they are adults and can take care of themselves. To be able to love, just to watch people walk out and leave.
Yes, Jane knows that Lisbon's power is the power to have. He does have the power of observation, but anyone can be taught to observe. Just like he was taught by his father to con people. But people can not be taught how to be strong when people leave. That is only learned when you have experienced it over and over again.
Lisbon is stronger than she gives herself credit for. She is a better cop than anyone can ever imagine her to be. She loves with all her heart, even though it takes a while for the respect and trust to come later. Jane knows that she is the force to be reckoned with, not him. Jane knows that she has the true power over the team. And he knows that she will do just fine without him one day.
