Copycat sighed as he
relaxed against the wall of his Pokeball. Transformation really takes
a lot out of a Ditto, and he'd just helped his owner Max win an
entire battle by doing it. Suddenly, many fruity smells mixed
together seeped into his little home. He smiled. It was berry salad.
He was very hungry, and he could hardly wait for Max to pull out his
Pokeball and let him eat. He was jerked out of his train of thought
when the Pokeball opened and he landed on the ground of the Eterna
Forest. Max handed him some salad, and he went off to eat with Max's
other Pokemon, who were seated on some logs. The happy little group
contained a strong-looking male Raichu whose name was Zappo and a
young male Wynaut named Junior being caressed by a female Empoleon
named Ping. An energetic female Pachirisu named Static scampered
around between trees, having eaten her fill. Above them hovered a
female Butterfree, nibbling at a berry. They were having a
conversation about what attacks Max was teaching them.
"You know
what I'd like? An attack all to myself, that no-one else could
learn." Butterfree said, answering her own question.
"I'd like that too." Zappo growled, and there were loud noises of agreement.
"What about you, Copycat?" Junior asked. "It mustn't be too great only being able to use other Pokemon's moves."
Copycat opened his mouth, then froze. He had never really thought about that. As a Ditto, he had always accepted that transforming was his calling, his own special way of attacking. But when he thought about it, he was only really copying moves of others. It was like cheating. A tear fell from his eye.
"Are you okay, dear?" Ping asked worriedly.
"Y-yes." Copycat choked. "I'm fine!" He threw his salad onto the ground and ran off, sobbing. Static turned her head, saw Copycat and ran alongside him. They ran together for a long time in silence."What's-wrong-Copy-Cat?" Static panted. Copycat turned his head and ran into the trees, leaving Static surprised and hurt.
All Max's other Pokemon were making loud noises to let him know the two had gone. When they got his attention, they pointed into the forest.
"Static and Copycat went in there? Oh no!" Max exclaimed. He placed all the Pokemon safely in their Pokeballs and held Copycat and Static's out in front of him. He rushed out into the trees.
This is only a short chapter to start the story, so please let me know what you think and, if you like, give me some tips on how to improve it.
