She was there again . . .
Standing between the two men in her life. One light the other darkness, both beautiful to her. She was afraid of the dark. But the light wasn't all that much better the light made her see things that she did not wish to see, it was all encompassing, consuming a world of stature and money and parties. A world she knew she would like to visit but would she stay there?
The dark could be beautiful it allowed you both heaven and hell. Heaven in its simple beauty, hell with it's secrets. It was all so unreal and yet it was real and simple. Emotions of the night usually were, impulses or calculated moves of the soul acting quickly before the mind had time to interfere and confuse the situation. In the darkness she was a secret, a hope a prayer.
In the light she could not hide. She was there everyone saw her she was displayed. She was raised where she didn't want to be raised high on a pedastol untouchable. A prize. In the night she was a love, a hopeless wish and a dream.
Dreams come true in the night.
She stirred in the night and a pair of arms wrapped themselves around her she knew they were strong and would protect her. She rested her head on his chest and sighed. A hand came up and caressd her hair and words of concern whispered. She lifted her head and saw the mask on the nightstand, she smiled, and kissed the marred flesh of the man laying beside her .
"I chose the right one." she whispered. And he sighed, kissed her head and pulled her close. He wasn't so sure but he thanked the gods (all of them ) that she did. She drifted off to sleep.
She was there again . . .
But this time it was different.
She stood between the two of them Raoul, newly restored to health and waiting to take her away from there and forget this night ever happened. And a little ways away stood Erik, beautiful in his own way and even more so that he understood love now. And christine in the middle. It would be the most important decision she would make this one altered lives, many lives. And she couldn't decide or could she? The lights came on in her mind and before she thought before she began to worry it was like some great force, no, not a great force her heart. Her heart made the decision. Christine held her hand out to Erik and the most beautiful look of wonder crossed his face. She smiled, he took her hand and pulled her close to him.
Christine kissed him for the second time that night and did not hide the joy she felt inside or the warmth of his love, yes the dark was a strange place but it did not exist with out love.
