OMFG if I could talk to you guys in pure thought, you'd be getting that giddy feeling in your gut JUST before you break out laughing. This is a story about a war that has been going on in fanfiction's restless Avatar section. I should probably lay out some things. Zutarians have the advantage of numbers, but the Kataangs have the advantage of skill. It's AU in the way that there are Airbenders (Can't have Aang take ALL those firebenders.) I also know that all Airbenders are basically monks, and therefore don't kill, but not once will I mention the loss of life in this story. That's a guarantee. I'm naturally biased towards Kataang (sorry guys) but I tried to make it neutral. Hopefully you guys like this even though it is real short. I could make variations in new chapters or something, but you'll probably get it. Everyone knows about the war. A war to rival the one depicted in the show.

A/N: sorry to all of you who have been following His Waterbender, Her Airbender. I have like 20 pages of new chapters on paper and haven't had access to a keyboard to put it onto a computer. I promise I'll get you a new chapter by Sunday, hopefully sooner. ALSO, I'll make epilogues for Kataang upon request. I can't bring myself to write about Zuko and Katara, but if someone else writes it, I'm fine.

Disclamer: I don't own Avatar: The Last Airbender… Yet.

The battlefield was green. A small hill was on both sides. One, a pit of fire, catapults set up and ready to fire. The other, a gusty forest, glimpses of orange and white seen threw the trees.

A noise, that of a Fire Nation commander could be heard. A few seconds later it was covered by the low whine of flying boulders. That sound was in turn covered by the sound of crashes and explosions. Airbenders emerged from the forest, confronting the Zutarians in hand to hand.

The two elements might as well have been polar opposites. The firebenders had earth-shattering attacks, but the airbenders had defense that could make the spirits cry. The battle was evenly matched for a while, that is, until the massive numbers of zutarians began to overwhelm the few Kataangs.

The battle continued, the flaming boulders falling on weak air shields. One flickered, then another, until the Airbenders were in panic. The zutarians had it won. They would have had it won that is, had Liselle129, the unproclaimed leader of the Kataangs, not rallied the airbenders. They regrouped under the flag of meshed air and water symbols and advanced on the enemy. The zutarians were outright surprised by the vigor of their enemy and fell back.

The sky darkened but still the fight went on. The only light came from the occasional balls of fire and flaming boulders that soared threw the air. Sky Bison and zeppelins engaged in a battle in the sky, while the earth below churned as if angered badgermoles lived under it. The forest that had once surrounded the battlefield was black, and the nearby river was filled with soot. The Zutarians, who by nature did not care about the destruction of nature, were unaffected. The peaceful airbenders though, suffered from low morals and guilt of the destruction they had caused.

In the middle of the battle, stood two figures who had finally found each other. One, with a scar on his eye and knives of fire in his hands, was taunting the other, a small kid with tattoos down his back, hands, and head. They stood there, talking in the middle of a battle, building up each others anger. Then, the one named Zuko, attacked. The Avatar, Aang, rolled to the left and threw a ball of solid air at the prince. He ducked, kicking out at the same time making a wave of fire that was absorbed by a shield of air. They were oblivious to the ring that had grown around them, a ring of benders from both sides waiting for the outcome.

The Zutarians had numbers, but the Kataangs had skill.
