A/N: I was flipping through one of my notebooks today and I found this, thought I'd share. I'm pretty sure it's my first real venture into the fandom...

Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek

"Death is a logical end to life, Doctor," he says. You glare at him and try to ignore the raised eyebrow that tells you his level of intrigue. You want to shake him, to scream at him, tell him this is no time for logic; but you know he won't listen. Instead, you turn your gaze to the window and watch the stars.

"Someone so young," you say. "It isn't fair."

"It is not about fairness, Doctor," he replies. "It is about nature."

"I don't give a damn about nature," you say as he moves to stand behind you. He doesn't say anything else, but in the eyes of his reflection you can see some semblance of sadness, and that comforts you.
