Disclaimer: I don't own Gilmore Girls
Yes
"Don't say "no" just to make me stop talking ormake me go away. Only say "no" if you really don't want to be withme."
"Yes!"
Rory blinked, shaking her head in an attempt to clear thefog that had suddenly enveloped her brain. She stared at Jess, who was lookingopen mouthed back at her. His hands dropped to his side and a smile grew on hisface, Rory took a step back and sank down to sit on one of the boxes behind her.
"But we can't," she said softly, lowering her gaze to thefloor. "We can't just leave." Jess knelt in front of her and placed a hand onher shoulder, she looked up at him, her eyes meeting his. There was a light in his eyes that she hadn't seen in a long time, a mischievous glint that she had forgotten she loved.
"We don't have to go yet," he replied. "Finish school, convince your mom I'm not a total loss, do whatever you need to," he turned her to face him, "all that matters is that you said yes."
"That's all you wanted?" Rory asked. "To know if I'd say yes?" Jess shook his head.
"I had this plan of how you would say yes and we would throw your boxes in my car and head straight for New York," he explained, gesturing at the room as he spoke. "But the minute you said what I wanted to hear I realized it doesn't matter."
"What doesn't matter?"Rory asked, taking a step back and sizing up the young man before her.
"It doesn't matter where we are, as long as we're together,"he replied. Rory stared at him, thinking only of how much Jess had changed since she'd last seen him.
She watched the look in his eyes change from excitement to confusion to sorrow as the silence between them stretched on.
She grinned.
"Is there room in your car for everything?" she asked, Jess nodded. "Then let's go!"
"Are you sure?"
"I"ll call my mom from the car," Rory replied, grabbing one of the smaller boxes and heading out the door.
