Little Lucas Takes a Nap

"Lucas Mariano," Jess said sternly. His two-year-old son gazed up at him from his position in his block-castle, his blue eyes wide with confusion. Jess sighed and knelt down, reaching out to the boy. He slipped his hands under Lucas' armpits and lifted his son into his arms.

As he stood, he heard the telltale sniffles that would precede the earsplitting cries of protest. Jess patted Lucas' back in anticipation, but the screams still came. Ignoring the ringing in his ears, Jess rocked from side to side, trying his best to shush the boy's cries.

"It's naptime, Luke," Jess heard a soft voice say; he turned as Lucas' screams began to subside and found his wife standing behind him. She held out her hands and Jess handed her their son, ignoring the amused expression on her face and the silent laughter brightening up her clear, blue eyes.

"Thanks, Ror," Jess said, Rory's smile grew. She balanced Lucas on her hip and the young couple watched as the boy's eyes began to droop. His head fell lightly against Rory's shoulder and she kissed him lightly on the head before maneuvering around the piles f blocks and setting her son in his crib.

Jess stepped up behind her and slipped his arms around her waist, kissing her lightly on the cheek as she watched Lucas drift to sleep, his thumb in his mouth and his face serene.

"He looks like you," Jess whispered. A wistful smile grew on Rory's face. She reached down and feathered the brown hair on her son's head.

"He'll have your hair," she said. She felt Jess shrug.

"But your eyes," he whispered pressing his lips to Rory's ear. She turned to him, resting her hands on his elbows.

"Dark hair and blue eyes, she said. "Quite a combination."

"Nothing wrong with that," Jess replied. Rory nodded.

"What do you say we get out of here," she asked. "Take full advantage of the situation." Jess grinned. He dipped his head and pressed his lips to Rory's before slipping his hand around hers and leading the way out of their son's room.

As they reached their bedroom, swinging the door mostly closed behind them, Jess pulled his wife to him. He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her, long and slow. They only parted for a brief breath of air before their lips found each other again, their fingers and hands peeling clothes from their bodies.

They fell to the bed, hands exploring, relearning and remembering the feel of one another's bodies. Mouths moved from mouths to necks and shoulders, then back again. Breaths came in quick, shallow gasps, and soon fists were clenching and hands were scratching at flesh.

Rory pressed her body down into the bed as Jess fell beside her; he wrapped his arms around her as they caught their breaths. Rory smiled as he kissed her cheek and pulled her close. She tugged the blankets over them and their eyes fell closed as they drifted off to sleep.

"Wait a minute," Sixteen-year-old Lucas Mariano said, looking from his mother to his father to his fourteen-year-old sister, then back. "You're telling me she's here because I took a nap?" He asked, emphasizing his question by pointing first at himself, then at his sibling. His mother laughed and his father failed to suppress a grin.

"It's not so bad," his mother said. "Is it, Jenn?" Lucas' sister shook her head, but her face was red and her eyes were focused on the plate of food before her. Lucas groaned.

"What'd you do when she took a nap?" he demanded. His parents laughed.
