You're Not Here
Thousands of horses move across the desert sand.
The thundering of their hooves
Sounds like the pounding of your heart,
When passion grips your soul.
The desert winds lift and beat the silk banners.
The warmth that they carry
Caresses my skin; as does your breath,
When your lips are close to me.
A gazelle dashes across the horizon as we advance.
The movement of its body
Is nimble and strong like your own
When you take me into you.
Dusk brings stillness across the land.
The amber glow of the sun's departure
Is the colour of your eyes
When you look deep into mine.
An incursion of fireballs flash across the night sky.
The destruction they wrought,
Is no more than that of my words
When I told you I didn't love you.
A mirage appears at the edge of the desert.
The mystical morning light,
Fools me into believing I see you
When you are returning to the shelter of my arms.
The eagle soars and dips across the cloudless skies.
Its lonely cry that rises above the battle weary,
Echoes the emptiness of my heart
When I look again to find that you're not here.
