Yankee Bayonet (I will be home then) Songfic

Yankee Invisible Cap

Pen into monster slayer, Yankee invisible cap

A sweet heart lost in my mind

Far from the streets of busy New York

That's where my true love resides

Look for me when the next wave

Rolls upon the shore so high

But you are away with no thoughts of me

With your seaweed brain not shy

But when the sun breaks to no more naiads in running creeks

Then will your heart make a grave? For I will be home then

I will be home then

I will be home then

I will be home then

Then

When I was a girl how the hills of Half-Blood

Coursed an urge to set me forward

There at the hill where our eyes caught, curious,

Got my heart pierced as if by a sword

But O did you see all the dead by Kronos

All the shields and the armor and the piles?

Yes, I lingered there with the hurt and dying

And I could see you away from miles

But when the sun breaks to no more battle cry

Then will your heart make a grave? For I will be home then

I will be home then

I will be home then

I will be home then

Not gods or goddesses or monsters too

Could keep me from you

This slaughter of lives is far too few

To keep me from you

But O my love though our hearts may be parted

Though our thoughts may not take their toll

Look for me when the next owl hoots

I will come when the next wave rolls

(Author's Note: I hope this songfic made sense. :) It will make more sense if you've read The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan. This songfic is based off of Yankee Bayonet (I will be home then) by The Decemberists. Awesome group, by the way. Here are the lyrics of Yankee Bayonet (I will be home then), as seen from :

Soldier: Heart carved tree trunk, Yankee bayonet
A sweetheart left behind

Girl: Far from the hills of the sea-swelled Carolinas
That's where my true love lies

Soldier: Look for me when the sun-bright swallow
Sings upon the birch bow high

Girl: But you are in the ground with the voles and the weevils
All a-chew on your bones so dry

But when the sun breaks to no more bullets in battlecreek
Then will you make a grave? For I will be home then
I will be home then
I will be home then
I will be home then
Then

Girl: When I was a girl how the hills of Oconee
Made a seam to hem me in

Soldier: There at the fair when our eyes caught, careless,
Got my heart right pierced by a pin

Soldier: But O did you see all the dead of Manassas
All the bellies and the bones and the bile?

Girl: No, I lingered here with the blankets barren
And my own belly big with child

But when the sun breaks to no more bulletin Battle Cry
Then will you make a grave? For I will be home then
I will be home then
I will be home then
I will be home then

Soldier: And stems and bones and stone walls too
Could keep me from you
This skein of skin is all too few
To keep me from you

Solider and Girl: But O my love though our bodies may be parted
Though our skin may not touch skin
Look for me with the sun-bright sparrow
I will come on the breath of the wind

I got the idea for the songfic ever since I heard the line 'Yankee bayonet' from the song, because of Annabeth's Yankee invisibility cap. I know it's a Civil War song, but I thought it would sound cool as a songfic. :) I also thought that it would be crude to keep the 'heart carved tree trunk' part, seeing as I don't think a dryad would appreciate a couple of half-bloods cutting a heart into its side much.

Once again, thanks for reading, please review! :D)
