JASPER
"Jasper!" I turned my head to find a small figure running towards me. I knelt down and embraced the child. I heard delicate sobs and warm tears falling on my neck. Hands clutching my shirt wildly, as if I would disappear that very second. I put my hand on a honey-blonde head, just like mine but more of a gingery colour.
"Alexis, honey-" I tried to say but she cut me off "Don't leave me! Who'll play with me, an' tell me bed time stories? Don't go!" Her blue eyes were flowing with tears. My mother stood beside me, silently weeping at the scene, not wanting to disturb us. "A.J, calm down, Okay? Breathe." I rubbed soothing circles on her back. She coughed and tried to breathe evenly. "Now A.J, I have to go-". She started to tear up again. "No, No, A.J, I will be back, okay? Good girl, but I have to go for now." Her aqua eyes searched my face for an explanation. "You see A.J, Some people need my help. They need to fight off a powerful army and they need my help to defeat them, but when we do, I'll be back, and we can play a lot of games together, al right?". She thought about that for a moment. "How will I know where you are?" "Wherever I go, I'm always with you, honey." She looked down, pursing her lips. I silently prayed for her next question to be easy. "How will I remember you?" She asked, glancing up from her long lashes. I was taken aback by this question. "Take this." I took out a small golden compass from my pocket and handed it to her. She studied it curiously. "It was our great great grandfather's, he handed it down to his most beloved relatives. Father gave it to me, now I hand it to you." Gently, she opened the compass and gasped. "It's beautiful." She said. I smiled "It's made of real gold, and there's a green emerald in the centre." She stared, mesmerized in the beauty of the stone.
"Let me tell you something about that emerald, beyond physical illnesses, emerald extends its power to help people overcome psychological struggles. As a stone of regeneration and recovery, it wards off negative emotions to enhance one's ability to appreciate and enjoy life. It imparts mental clarity by ways of inspiring deep realizations of truth, which deepen one's ability to know while broadening his vision of life. It connects mortal affections or relations to the concept of Divine Love, preventing one from being misled by worldly acts and influences. It keeps you centred on your heart's wisdom of goodness. In many ways, it helps relieve heartbreak in making one realize the importance of giving love to oneself as well as to others." Alexis looked at me, perplexed by my detailed description of such a small stone. It took her some time to regain her ability to speak.
"It will remind me of you, you know." She look down at the compass. "You always know what to do to make me feel better. You wipe away all my bad memories and replace them with better ones, and convince me to love my life the way it is, and after father's death..." A single tear fell down on the compass, wiping it off, she looked at me. "Be careful." she hugged me again. I lifted her up in my arms and kissed her cheek. "I will. Take care of mother, for me." I put her down and opened the door. "I will! I love you!" I gave mother a hug, before replying to my dear sister.
"I love you, too." I gave my family one last look before heading out on my journey. My last words echoing back to me. I love you, too.
A bit sad, isn't it?
