"Wesley," I heard her say. I knew she was there before she even spoke. I knew the sound of her footsteps now, light and gentle on the hallway floor.
"Yes?" I said, turning to face Fred in my doorway. Just the sight of her made me melt.
She smiled as she entered my office. I noticed she glanced at the book on my desk. "I never knew you read Edgar Allan Poe," she said, "He's one of my favorites."
"He's brilliant," I agreed.
"It was many and many years ago." She recited. "In a kingdom by the sea. That a maiden there lived, whom you may know, by the name of Annabel Lee."
"And this maiden, she lived with no other thought, than to love and be loved me." I continued softly. "I was a child and she was a child, in this kingdom by the sea."
"But we loved with a love that was more than love – I and my Annabel Lee," As we recited, we drew closer to each other.
"With a love that the winged seraphs in Heaven, covered her and me."
"You're the only person," I said, "That can recite Poe's works from memory."
"Just the only one you know, I guess." She smiled.
"Fred." Angel called from his office. "Hurry up! I need your help!"
"Coming!" Fred called. She turned and smiled at me. She stopped a moment, took a step forward, and hissed me briefly. Then she left without another word.
"My little Texas tornado
Is blowing me away again
I swore it wouldn't happen again
But I looked at you and then."
"I'm like a tumble weed
In the wild, west Texas wind
You're blowing me away again."
Like a Texas tornado she blew into my office, and left it just as suddenly, leaving her destruction on my heart. Blowing me away with out even realizing it.
"I'm like a tumble weed
In the wild, west Texas wind
You're blowing me away again."
