Corruption

All was quiet and serene inside and outside the vast canyon, the only sounds coming from the chirping crickets and ringing Tribelles, which always made any tired creature melt away into a deep sleep without effort. The sky was turning from blood-red to a purplish-blue hue as the twin suns drifted below the horizon. The water surrounding the tiny island was a mirror image of the sky, dotted with stars, waving a little with the wind and fallen leaves from other trees. Lums, big and little glowing spheres that exhibited many colors as though they'd been formed from a rainbow, flew all around. They shone light on everything in their path, from leaves and flowers to each other and animals.

In the very center of the clearing, one light shone the brightest of all. It was larger than the Lums, its color unlike theirs. It was pinkish in color with pink splotches wavering on its surface, making it resemble a bubble. Inside, bolts and sparks of raw energy stroked the barrier of the sphere from a little cluster of light.

The sphere was isolated from the top of the canyon and its inhabitants, as well as those in the river in the canyon, such as the fishes. But why, you may ask? There were many reasons for its separation from people; for safekeeping, protection, and other reasons to keep it from any organism.

This object was one of a kind. It was a ball of raw energy powerful enough to give powers to one who carried it. Though it was not as powerful as the Heart of the world, it was still powerful. Those who placed it there wanted to keep it from thieves who would attempt to harvest its energy for their own benefit. They would corrupt themselves completely and risk extermination for whatever wrong they could do with the sphere's power. Those who put it on that island, that little scrap of land that one would normally have to jump down to in order to get to it and risk death, were wise to do so. They had warned others not to let it fall into the wrong hands. Most of the planet's inhabitants did what they were told and tried not to let it be stolen or worse.

One being in particular neglected those warnings completely. He was immensely intrigued by the power of this object, and always pondered what it would be like if he could have powers like this thing. He had journeyed all the way down into the canyon despite the long, deathly fall. Somehow he'd survived it, for he wasn't like the other beings in this world. No, he was way different. He'd glided down into the depths of the valley using the powers he already had.

As the midnight-blue-shrouded creature approached the pink ball, his yellow eyes narrowing in utter pleasure with every step. His intensions in that clearing were not at all good. He was getting closer to victory, and it was right there in front of him. He couldn't stop now, he wouldn't.

His hands were right over the surface of the sphere now. He could feel the vibration of the magic deep inside it, vibrating out.

"So this is the Great Protoon," he mused. "At last, I've found it!"

He could feel the Protoon trembling against him as he gathered it up in one swift motion. As he felt its power surging into him, a grin of pure evil crawled across his face, bearing demonic, vicious teeth.

"There's no hope for the world now," he laughed. "The Protoon is mine now, and that's how it shall always be. Corruption, however one may define it, no matter what it means to others, has never felt so good to me!"

And with that he surged up into the air to continue his evil mission further on.
