Drew Holt sat on his dorm room bed. He leaned against the wall. He needed to talk to Natalie. He had to explain what the last few weeks with Amy had been about.

He walked down the hall to Natalie's room. He was about to knock when her door swung open.

"Drew." she sounded surprised, but like she was trying to hide it.

"Hi, Natalie."

"I have a class." Natalie pushed past him. He turned to follow her as she strode down the hall.

"We need to talk." Drew called after her.

"Yeah, right." she tossed over her shoulder. "After you hole up with your ex-girlfriend from high school? Yeah, we need to talk. Yeah, no. No, Drew, we don't."

"I need to tell you why I let her stay."

"Because you missed her and your simpler days of high school?"

"Hey." Drew caught Natalie by the shoulder. She stopped and turned to face him. "High school was anything but easy."

"Why, did she get pregnant?" Natalie spat sarcastically. Drew turned ashen, and Natalie realized.

"Can we talk in my room?" Drew asked.

"Yeah." Natalie nodded.

They entered Drew's room and sat on the bed.

"Natalie, high school was really complicated." Drew said. "Amy and I were sleeping together. We weren't careful enough. And she got pregnant. Then, she decided to have an abortion."

"That's her decision." Natalie defended Amy, which she never thought she would do.

"I know. But it was my baby, too. She didn't even talk to me about it. I borrowed the money from my sister. And after Amy had the abortion, she broke up with me."

"How old were you?"

"We were seniors."

"Why do you think she should have asked you?"

"She said it was a mistake. But it was our mistake. Together. And I felt like she didn't want to think about that. And I...I was hurt. Then she broke up with me. And we didn't talk after that. Then she just showed up here, and I let her stay because I needed closure."

"Closure?" Natalie asked.

"Yes. I needed closure. The way we left things after she had the abortion, it was like I had this gaping hole inside of me. It made me sad to think about Amy, and the baby we didn't have. It broke my heart. And then I met you."

"Me?"

"Yep, you." Drew slid his arm around Natalie, and she let him. "And I started to heal from the stuff I went through. When Amy showed up, I wanted to have closure with her, so I could start over with you. I didn't want to mess anything up. And I felt like I wasn't able to give you all of me when I still had that hole. So I closed it.

"Now, I want a do-over with you. I want to start over fresh." Drew confessed.

"Drew..." Natalie said softly. She leaned into him and wrapped her arms around him. "I want that, too."

"Really?"

"Yeah, really." Natalie smiled. "It means a lot to me that you did that, even though I was awful to you."

"You're worth it."

"Thanks, Drew." Natalie kissed him, and Drew smiled.
