Yuki's Secret Garden

Yuki wasn't sure what about gardening had caught his attention, but suddenly he wanted one for himself. There was plenty of room for it, considering the sheer amount of property the Sohmas owned, and as long as it wasn't in the way of anything, he doubted Shigure would mind.

In fact, he thought Shigure would hide from his editor there, or make a mess (there was a reason the phrase was dog-garned), so maybe it wasn't such a great idea to tell him about it.

Still, that didn't deter the idea. Or tell Yuki where it came from.

He figured it out later, when he'd scattered seeds and watered them lavishly and waited with bated breath for something to grow from them. He wanted to see them grow: grow healthy and full of life and happy like the Sohma family could never be.

But he'd overwatered the first lot of seeds, and they'd barely made it out of their waterlogged shells. He almost cried at that; if he had been younger and more innocent, he would have. Instead, he tried again, and again, until he was granted the sight of saplings rising from the earth.

That wasn't enough for him, and he kept his garden.
