Korrlok Week, Day 2: Noodles
Once a week, we find the time to go to Narook's together. Much of my life is taken up with duties on the city council and her life is being the Avatar, but we have set aside this outing as something we will always share, no matter what demands are placed on us. I initially had many restaurants in mind where I could take her, but I put that all aside when she mentioned this place. Her eyes lit up and she grinned from ear to ear as she described the traditional Water Tribe food and at that moment I could not have denied her anything.
She was completely charming the first time we came. She chattered away while we waited to be served about the different dishes and how they compared to her mother's cooking. When the food came she slurped it down without any pretenses at ladylike elegance and immediately ordered more. The more she talked, I realized how she badly she missed her home. As much as she might love the city, she longed for the ice and snow, the familiar tastes and smells she grew up with. After that I made sure that we came back every week. Even when she was unexpectedly kept out until past midnight, she returned home to find a pot of seaweed noodles kept warm over a small fire. Whenever she gets that taste of home and smiles she is completely radiant. I might enjoy the food, but I enjoy making her so happy even more.
