Sadly, I don't own Batman. I do own a Batman T-shirt though :D

An Introduction

He stood on the roof, surveying the chaos below. He was a prince, and this was his empire. People ran screaming in the streets, their howls of panic and fear mixing with the car horns and the alarms and the shattering explosions. His smile of deep satisfaction cut across his face like the knife had all those years ago. His black eyes darted here and there throughout the destruction, a hawk watching humanity dissolve into nothing more than animals in the confusion. A small child, scratching at its mother, who lay sobbing in the road, surrounded by blood and debris. A young man curled into a ball clawing at his face, his briefcase burst open behind him, papers spewing out. A woman, crying out as she ran, falling in the glass from the broken shop windows, picking herself up, blood escaping from the holes in her tights, her once immaculate hair now falling in tendrils in front of her pained face. Another explosion went off to her right and she fell once more in a hail of glass, only this time she didn't get back up.

The watcher laughed, a chilling, malevolent sound, then he laughed again, until he was hysterical, the noise issuing from his lips was inhuman, uncontrollable, insane. He whirled round, coat flapping in the harsh winter wind, turning his back on his broken people. He had seen enough. So he walked, facing in to the icy rain, the water pearling on his unkempt hair and dripping onto his smiling face. For he was always smiling. He was the Clown Prince of Gotham. The Joker.
