A/N: This is just a short Shikamaru drabble to get the ideas flowing…

"Damn…Troublesome parents…" Nara Shikamaru groaned as he lifted his creaking body up from the rough pavement. It was the middle of May, and despite the cool afternoon, he couldn't help but feel a bit burned from the brush off by his guardians.
Really, since they all had only one day off during the week, him from school, them from work, they usually spent it together sprawled out in front of the couch in the usual cozy family sort of way. He had intended to do just that by starting his Sunday off late and strolling into the kitchen with half-intention of letting his mother make food for him, but no sooner than he entered the room was a bowl of cereal shoved into his hands and a small list of what he was to go and get directly afterwards.
"What was that thing called again?" He pulled out the small scrap of paper that his father had thrust into his hands just before he literally kicked him out—the reason he was previously on the ground—and stared at its contents. He nearly scoffed when he noticed a single thing written on the paper; that object being none other than a diamond drill. All that for one simple thing? He had half a mind to march back over to the door and demand that Shikaku get it himself, but when his hand came down on the knob to the front door's handle, he could've sworn that he heard his mother giggle. …ah I see now. He refused to be grossed out; it was human nature, but immediately moved as far as the sidewalk would allow him.
Those two…If they wanted some alone time, couldn't they have found a better way of going about this? He sighed and spun around, making his way down the street to his classmate and childhood friend TenTen's family shop. Besides a large range of assorted weapons—antique and new age alike—they carried a vast variety of tools that anyone would need. To keep his mother from yelling at him should he return without the drill, he decided that he might as well check; if TenTen didn't carry it, he'd just give up and say that he'd tried.
The soft chime of the bell brought his friend's attention from the nice row of newly shined weapons, bringing a smirk to her previously blank face. "Hey Shikamaru-kun! What can I do for you?" She straightened and dusted off her spotless black jeans as she made her way to the front of the counter, where the lazy teen was already propping his head up with the back of his hand.
"Yo…" Shikamaru slid his half-open lids to the brunette female with a blank expression on his face. "You wouldn't happen to carry diamond drills in your shop would you?"
"Diamond drills? Kami, no! Do you have any idea of how hard those things are to come by?" She asked with widened chocolate hues.
Just as I thought. He took his elbows off the counter and began to walk off, his hands going to his pockets once more. "Oh well, thanks for that, TenTen."
"What did you need a diamond drill for?" She called after him out of curiosity, hanging over the counter half way so that she could peer at him where he stood by the door.
The male didn't bat an eye, "So that my tou-san can get laid." He yawned into the palm of his hand, missing the elder teen's flushed face. "Arigato TenTen, I'll see you in school tomorrow." He gave her a half hearted wave before exiting the shop, the door swinging shut behind him.
"L-Laid..?" TenTen's face remained flushed before she released her breath in a small huff of air, slapping the palm of her hand onto her forehead. "Honestly Shikamaru, you're way too blunt sometimes!"
