The blonde shoved one hand into the pocket of her jeans - the other holding Bardiche in device form - and kicked out at the ground, scuffing the heel of her shoes.
They had not met in years.
She had been saved by the white mage, rescued from the morass of despair that had threatened to consume her life.
It was not by their own doing, it was not what they had wanted, yet there was nothing but to endure not having each other by their side.
They had started sending video-letters, each detailing their own encounters and experiences, ones that made Fate feel more human with each passing day.
Suzuka and Arisa had also been in those treasured letters. Those two girls had been Nanoha's friends from the very beginning and while they didn't know about the Nanoha and Fate had met, they had not ignored Fate's existence and instead had tried to make friends with her. At least, as much of a friendship as one could have from dimensions away.
Friends.
Fate had no idea when it had started. Any contact from Nanoha, would surely have no trouble turning her emotions (inside out upside down) volatile. Perhaps it was the brunette's kind smile, her distinctive laughter, or the light in slate-blue eyes she saw even through the artificiality of the video. Perhaps it would have been better if Fate knew what exactly, for if she did, she would be able to stop this pining after someone who was much too good (pure) for her own good.
Fate had wrestled with her own feelings countless times, knew she would never be more than just a friend, and yet she could not help but yearn for more.
Just friends.
The cold started swirling around her, snowflakes dancing their way down from grey skies.
I think I'm moving but I go nowhere.
It was time for her to set out on yet another mission.
