my first story in the Terra Nova archive and I hope to write many more. Many, many, many thanks to Zoe6 for taking the time to look over this for me
She was defiant. Too proud to admit she'd been beaten. It was natural for her, to stand tall even in defeat.
Her strict ponytail was gone, in replacement was a shoulder length black curtain, hiding the damage to the sides of her head. Her eyes, they were hard and cruel, he knew she hated appearing like this, looking weak in the eyes of her people. Also gone was the dark plated armor that she so proudly wore, looking back, he realized he had only seen her so casually dressed about once - even then it had been when he had barged into her home, yelling about how there was an attack by the sixers and how he needed her lazy butt out there before his men turned to Carno meat (he had been rewarded with a knife to his neck) - but still, as he evaluated her he was faintly aware of Mira talking and the fact that she had his other soldier as well.
He started negotiating, wanting that proud, defiant woman that he knew so well to be safe. Then he realized that behind that facade of hardness, defiance and power was a woman - granted a woman that could bring his toughest soldier to tears, but a woman still. caring and nurturing. She, he realized, had been the reason for him moving past his wife's death, one of his reasons for coming here (because, you see, what he failed to explain to Jim was that the next person that came through the time fracture was her) and later he would realize that they probably should have gone through together.
After she'd been cut loose she walked back stood proudly among his people, warding off everyone who tried to help her. Later he saw her motherly side, when Leah struggled he saw a black plated arm gently snake around the girl's chest and lift her up - granted she had carried the youngster upside-down most of the way but you had to give her some credit. And now, as he was watching her stand with Jim and Elizabeth watching the young girl embrace Jim, Commander Nathaniel Taylor realized that he felt more than just friendship for Lieutenant Alicia Washington.
thanks for taking your time to read, ya know it doesn't take that long to review either *hint hint* :) bye!
