I will not provide the title and summary that usually appears at the beginning of my fan-fics, because I am treating this prologue with extreme caution. I'm going to see what kind of reaction I get with this small introduction before I make any decisions.
One thing I will say, however, is that if this fic goes ahead, it'll be my saga-fic for 2008, and what's more, I'll actually complete it. I'll also briefly mention that this will contain the following: a unique-pairing, an under-rated pairing, lots of Queen references, and a few other symptoms.
Disclaimer: Do not own the characters of the show I write this from.

Prologue: "Misfire"

Novices to the town of Bikini Bottom would, upon seeing Sandy Cheeks for the first time, have figured her a tomboy. (In fact, in the days she was just settling down, those novices who saw her and didn't hear the feminine Texan lilt to her voice assumed she was, in fact, a man. They adjusted their opinion upon being thrown to Rock Bottom.)

These novices are only half-correct. It's true that Sandy wasn't your typical girl; "ka-ra-tae", extreme sports, and daredevil stunts being the norm of her schedule. And most of her personality matched this inane passion for the reckless, for she was headstrong, impulsive, and had this habit of sticking up for the underdog. Had astrologists in Bikini Bottom a chance to study her, she would have been classified "Aries" without a second thought.
But leaving it at that would only be one vision.
Indeed, those who knew her better would also know that she was, believe it or not, a scientist.

And a good scientist at that. She was up there with the ranks of Dr Gill Gilliam, Sheldon J Plankton, and the bass player from pop-group Boys Who Cry. She could do pretty much anything from transport matter to the study of Bijou; someone in love with their car? They just called Sandy Cheeks. It was her science interest that had, in fact, gotten her to where she was today; not content with being up in the surface world, she recieved a grant from the university she graduated from to live in an oxygenated dome under Bikini Atoll to further her studies.
But not even Bikini Bottom scientists like her knew everything there was to know. Like prehistoric calamari Squog (AN: see "Poko Sala Love") and so many others before her, love was the one thing that eluded her knowledge to the point of insanity.

The difference, however, between her and Squog was that soon, very soon, love would come along and tear apart her carefully placed theories on the subject. Quite literally, "Another One Bites The Dust".

And even more so for Sandy, simply because of the unexpected source from which it would spring.
