Las Vegas HospitalAs Jim Brass walked through the long dark hallways the only sounds heard were that of his shoes and the occasional cough of a patient. Jim found room 521 but before he had the chance to walk in he heard someone say his name. He turned to see Cath, Grissom, and Sara sitting on a bench in front of the room. Grissom's arm was around Sara.
Cath walked up to him "I'm so sorry about your brother. I promise you he's going to be okay." She said as she hugged him tight. Grissom finally picked up his head "Jim I'm sorry about this. He will be okay."
"I certainly hope so Gil. I know you two were close too." Sara put her hand in Grissom's. He looked over at her and smiled. Jim walked over to the bench and he and Catherine both sat down. She looked over at him. He was starring at his shoes. She put her hand on his arm. Jim turned to face Cath.
When he saw the concern in her eyes he smiled lightly. He realized then that she cared. He pulled her into his arms and she put her head on his shoulder. Grissom glanced down at Sara, who was asleep on his chest. It was a long shift. Then he looked over at Cath and Jim. He wasn't surprised.
He always knew they had feelings for each other.
The next morning Sara woke up. She became aware of a weight on her back. It was Grissom's arm. She glanced around. Noticing she was actually sleeping on her boss. She smiled at the thought. She looked over at Brass and Cath. They hadn't moved since he arrived. She thought they both were asleep.
"Good morning Sara." Jim looked over at her. "Hi Jim, you okay? Is Tim okay?"
"Well I talked to the doctor Sara, he's stabilized now. He has a broken leg and a crushed hand. He's pretty bruised up too. But he's going to be fine." Sara smiled "That's good. How are you?" He sighed, "I'm fine. I do what I can."
The very next hour everyone was awake and chatting away on the bench. Jim looked down at Catherine. "Thanks," he said softly. Gil and Sara looked at each other. "Jim we'll be right back. Is there anything you guys want while we're at the café?" Jim eyed Gil. "No thanks I'm good." They both got up and walked down the hall together. Grissom had his arm around Sara. "So," Cath sighed and said.
Jim looked down at his shoes, suddenly finding them very interesting. "If I was out of work earlier I would have been there, I should have been there for him." Cath put her hand on his cheek. "Look at me Jim. Don't blame yourself. It's not you fault."
Jim didn't move his head. "It's true Cath. I should have been there and I wasn't. I'm a terrible brother." Catherine moved her hand to his chest. "No Jim stop. You're not a bad brother. You couldn't have done anything. I can't sit here and see you do this to yourself. You're a good man Jim. You care… That's why I fell in love with you."
He looked up at Cath in disbelief, but what he saw in her eyes told him she wasn't lying. "I'm sorry I shouldn't have…" But before she could finish her sentence Jim cut her off with his lips. He lightly brushed their lips and kissed her. Cath closed the gap between them and put her hand on his neck.
Just then Gil and Sara rounded the corner to the room. Gil felt his jaw drop. "Uhm, Sar, I forgot something in the car, I'll, uh, come on," He said wanting to give them privacy. Sara smirked, "Right…."
