It's still Sunday somewhere! So this totally still counts!
Enjoy.

It happened very unexpectedly one spring afternoon.
Yato and Yukine didn't have any jobs to do, and Hiyori had finished school for the day, so they were all walking back to her house together. It was such a nice day, though, that they decided to spend more time outside admiring the city (and maybe slaying the occasional phantom) before returning home. Hiyori texted her mother to let her know she would be arriving later.
Many buildings they went past had their windows open. Petals and leaves skipped down the streets with the breeze. Hidden behind an elegant, orderly row of trees they noticed the bright paint of a torii gate. Yato was immediately drawn to it. It was the kind of city shrine he dreamed about and he had to explore it. Rolling their eyes, Yukine and Hiyori trailed after him.
Yato's eyes were sparkling with possibility. While he was enthusiastically mumbling to himself about the tweaks he would make to a version of his own shrine, Hiyori was looking around politely. Having grown up in the city, she had been here before a few times with her parents. Frankly, she was surprised Yato didn't know every shrine in the city by now from having to sleep in them all the time. She wandered over to where he was inspecting a column.
It was kind of weird seeing the god inspecting and critiquing the shrine of another. She felt like she had to say something to remind him of his dignity. "It will take you a while to save, but eventually you'll get here. You're so passionate about this. I know you will." She smiled warmly. He was horrible at saving, but it wasn't a lie, it would just take him a loooooooong time. She really thought he would do it… one day.
Yato whirled, surprised by her appearance and her words. She could see he was nearly moved to tears by her words. He grabbed both of her hands in his. "I swear to you, with your help, and Yukine's, I know it will happen. And I want it to look just like the one you made me."
Without any warning, a shrine maiden rounded the corner and nearly ran into them with their hands still clasped. Hiyori blushed beet red and tried to shuffle away, but Yato was still holding her. The shrine maiden only smiled. "You make such a cute couple!" she gushed.
Hiyori blushed even harder. But she also kind of got butterflies in her stomach at the thought. Did she really think they were together?
Yato almost fell over. Never in all his time had someone told him that before. And with his precious Hiyori! If he wasn't saving himself for Hiyori, he would have kissed the older lady for saying that.
He pulled Hiyori closer. "Yeah we do, don't we?" He leveled his searing blue eyes at hers.
She smacked him lightly for saying that. The shrine maiden laughed and walked away.
Yato was disappointed she wouldn't roll with it, but Hiyori hadn't let go of his hand yet and he contented himself with that. In fact, she kept holding onto one of his hands until they saw Yukine and left the shrine.

Anyway, the theme is Firsts. This is the first time anyone has ever told Yato or Hiyori they make a cute couple. I thought it was a good idea because a) nobody really sees Yato so that would just rock his world and b) Hiyori doesn't have to deal with enough outside pokes at her relationship with Yato, also because nobody sees him.
