This is a scene from the Monshou OAV using the game-verse characterizations. Well, mostly. The Marth/Sheeda scene is from the anime but I did my own flashback because abusive!Cornelius can suck it.

"Anri must have been an amazing person," Sheeda sighed. "Don't you think so, Marth?" But his mind was elsewhere, the storyteller's words bringing him back to the year before...

"Should that come to pass, Jeigan, I leave my son in your care," Marth overheard; he peeked into the room to see his father and Altea's most trusted guardian in a heated discussion.

"Your Highness..."

"Can I trust you?" The king's voice was firm, and Jeigan nodded. Marth tried to sneak off before he was caught eavesdropping, only for his father to grab his shoulder.

"F-Father! I didn't mean..." He bit his lip. "Is it true? You're going to face Durhua...?" He fought back tears, the last thing Father needed was to see him cry like a child. The king knelt down, his face stern but gentle.

"The blood of the great Anri runs through my veins, and the Falchion is one of the only means by which we have to stop Medeus and the Durhua Empire," he said. "Marth, you're old enough to hear the truth. I may not return from this battle, even with the Falchion and Gra's army Durhua may be too strong. If that should happen, Altea is in your hands."

A few tears escaped his eyes, and Marth balled his hands into fists.

"Father, don't say such things! You're a descendent of Anri, you must-"

"Marth." Cornelius's grip on his shoulder tightened, and his gaze softened. "For the sake of your mother and your sister, for the sake of Altea, you must be strong."

"Marth?"

He blinked, returning to the present. Father's stern but fearful expression became Sheeda's worried frown.

"Have you been paying attention to a word I've said?" She sighed. "You're worrying again, aren't you?"

"It's been a year since my father left to fight Durhua," Marth said. "I haven't heard anything of him or Gra's army since. Mother is worried sick." He closed his eyes. "The day before he left he made me promise to take care of her and the kingdom if he didn't come back. But I don't think I'm capable of that, Sheeda, I'm not as strong as he is. What if he's already-"

"Stop that!" Sheeda scolded, then her face became gentle as she rested a hand on his shoulder. "Thinking such dark thoughts isn't going to bring word of him any sooner, and it certainly won't help him win," she said. "I can't predict what's going to happen, but just think good thoughts and everything will turn out fine."

"Sheeda..." He reached up to lay his hand over hers. "I'm sorry for being so pessimistic right now. And for not listening."

"It's okay." She smiled. "Just know that no matter what happens, I'll be here for you."

He closed his eyes, drawing her into an embrace.

"Thank you, Sheeda." Then, suddenly, he got an idea. "Hey, why don't we spend a day on the town? Just the two of us, I think we could both use a distraction," he said. Sheeda's eyes lit up, and in a split second they were running down the road, hitching a ride on the first wagon they could see. And as he lay beside her on the soft hay, he found himself laughing for the first time in what seemed like forever.
