Booth's Baby Girl
Early Morning Thoughts
Here I am sitting in the dark thinking about you. This is your big day. How will I ever get through it? I can all ready feel my heart breaking. My tears are already falling. I want to wake Bones and wrap my arms around her for comfort, but she cried most of the night and needs her sleep to get through the day. I knew this day would come someday and now it's here. It came too soon.
I remember the day you were born you looked like angel when your Mother wrapped you in that pink blanket. Your soft downy hair was the color of warm chocolate. Your skin was as soft and always had the wondrous smell of your Mother. You have always had her crystalline blue eyes. Since the very minute I saw your beautiful face you have had me wrapped around your little finger.
You learned the Booth smile early in life, and used it on me often. Once when your Mother was away at a conference, you took her lipstick and drew our family on the wall. You were so proud of what you had done. Your smile made me want to keep that picture forever. Your Mother's frown made me take it down. Just between you and me I took a picture first and still have it in my wallet. I still carry your smile in my heart.
Like your Mother you have always traveled your own road, but you have always known your way home. Today you leave with the man who asked for your hand. I know he is the half that makes you whole. He has the heart of a man's man, but baby just between you and me he's not good enough.
Go on, take on this whole new world, but to me you'll always be my little girl.

The Reception
Here I am sitting in the back of the room. It is in shadows and I hope they hide my tears. As I look at your face I can see you lost in his love. It's like no one else is in the room. I know that feeling. After twenty five years, your Mother and I still have that feeling.
Looking at you I feel again how deep my love for you is. I have always prayed you would find what I have found in your Mother, and you have. But it's still so hard to give you away.
I knew the first time I saw you with him it was only a matter of time, but now it's here and it's still too soon. I loved you first. I held you first. A place in my heart will always be yours. From the first breath you breathed, when you first smiled at me, I knew the love of a father runs deep. But it still hard to give you away, I loved you first.
Suddenly the feeling comes over me and a soft thumb wipes away the tears that have fallen.
"Booth, we did a good job. She is ready."
I look up into the ever changing crystalline blue eyes. I see the love and the world becomes just the two of us. "I loved her first."
She leans over and kisses me, "yes you did, and she will always have that special place in your heart. This morning when she was dressing she wanted me to tell you something, and I would know when. The time is now. She wanted you to know she loved you first."
