When the War moved to the Continent, Ron said goodbye to Hermione and said he'd write her every day until he got back and they married. He did, even when they didn't do anything. He was gone for three years, fighting the legions of Death Eaters with the rest of the Order undercover, sending letters to her by the new post that the Ministry had set up for wartime.

Finally, he came home. Trudging up the dusty country road he passed his close friends and family's houses where they were having their own joyous reunions. He passed Ginny's house, where Blaise Zabini, who had been a valuable informer for the Order, stood embracing his sister. The next house over was his. A grin grew on his face as he walked up the walkway and went inside, dropping his gear in the foyer.

"Hermione?" he called. "Hermione, are you here?" He looked through the house and finally went into the kitchen, where he found a note.

Ron,

You never wrote me. I want you to know I'm leaving you for someone who loves me.

Sincerely,

Hermione

He sat down heavily in the kitchen chair and stared at the note for three hours before there was a small knocking sound. He looked up to see Ginny standing there, biting her lips nervously.

"So… you know?" she asked timidly.

"She left me," he said hoarsely. "Why?"

"Well… she never heard from you, ever," Ginny said. "She got tired of having to ask Mum for news of you and finally she decided you didn't love her. So she left with someone she'd met. They got married a year and a half ago. They're expecting a baby," she added.

"Who?" Ron asked, crumpling the note in his hand. "Who did she leave with?"

Ginny gulped before answering, "The new mailman, Draco Malfoy."
