Peter and Claire were standing bored at the edge of one of Nathan's political parties, clutching at wine glasses. Silence had passed over the pair long ago.

"When did we become like them? The ones we used to laugh at together, you made me be like them and I let you."

"Claire…"

"We used to stand at these things together and say 'screw this let's go get a cheeseburger together' and we wouldn't care that I was in a ball gown and you were in a tux in the middle of a fast food joint because we were together and not stuck at one of these stuffy parties! Now your mother is trying to set me up with some heir to an oil company and you're dating that stuck up bitch Lauren. We've turned into these…people." She spat angrily gesturing round the room.

"When did we stop being Peter and Claire, the anarchists, the people giving Nathan a heart attack every Saturday?"

Peter just stared at her, mouth open, eyes bright.

"Where did that come from?"

Claire just groaned and turned around and walked to Oscar Franklin, the oil tycoon's son and Peter's mother. Claire looked completely bored by the talk and yawned only to be instantly chastised by her substitute mother Angela Petrelli.

When they all sat down to dinner that night Peter and Claire's name cards were next to each other.

By the third course Peter was bored of projecting his opinions of Oscar into an unresponsive Claire. Grabbing the nearest napkin and the pen from his jacket he wrote a note.

Lauren and I broke up.

A smile covered Claire's face as she read it.

Why?

Peter smiled back.

Someone told me she was a stuck up bitch and their opinion matters a lot to me.

Good friend.

Could be more.

A confused expression covered her face.

Her thoughts echoed in his head. "You like me?"

He grinned and nodded slightly, pushing the napkin towards her.

Fancy getting a cheeseburger?
