Nova observed her surroundings.
Stone Columns and- her impact had scraped some moss off the ground- an intricate mosiac of colored tiles.
Benches, tables, stone chairs, statues covered in vines and flowers. A small pond with native fish that swam lazily in the natural light.
All of it had been lost to time and by all rights should be dust by now. But it wasn't and it was beautiful.
Nova wasn't sure the Grineer were even aware that this building existed. Hell, she didn't know it existed till she made an accidental detour on the way to Extraction. Falling through two hudred feet of vegetation and foliage was unexpected when the platform she was to be picked up on collapsed. She ran a systems check with the nanites in her blood and found nothing to be broken or damaged, however she did not have the energy to summon a wormhole. Damn. Aside from Helios, her sentinel, she was alone and had to climb back up manually. Double damn.
She looked around for her Latron - "Mistress, it is at your feet." - and found it scuffed up but otherwise undamaged. Thank Orokin for the Prime Weapons otherwise she was sure it would be in pieces. She reholstered the rifle, checked for her pistols and knives, and made a note on her map to come back here another time. After Helios recorded a video of the general area and took some pictures for her Codex, she began her ascent.
She climbed for twenty minutes- as long as her average survival missions- and saw that she was reaching the top. She paused once she reached the sunlight, thankful that her backup systems began pulling energy from the UV rays. She could feel the antimatter build up in her bone marrow and charge her blood and she began to feel alive once more. Her shields hummed in tune with the distant animal life and for a moment she felt at piece.
"Teno, what happened?" crackled Lotus. The AI was finally able to connect to her Warframe to communicate. "You were out of range for longer than the mission would have called for."
"I'll inform you once I can get to a terminal to upload," Nova replied.
"Very well, I'm sending you new coordinates for extraction. Get there and get off this planet."
"Yes ma'am."
Nova sighed. Nova remembered the building below her. That place would be amazing in the gardens. She wondered if she could convince Lotus to authorize her clan to claim this building and transport it to the dojo. Most likely not, but it never hurt to ask. Lotus was funny like that. She ran a hand over her helmet out of a nervous habit and then looked around. No grineer ran up to greet her with bullets or fire though she wasn't surprised. They didn't even know she had gone in and extracted data from their dilapidated systems.
Why were they even on this planet still? Nostalgia for a time they weren't even alive for? Who knows. At least they appreciate the planet more than the Corpus. The Corpus would have torn up the trees already and covered the planet in metal and factories.
Nova shuddered.
"Teno, extraction is waiting for you."
"I'm moving Lotus."
And so she did, created a wormhole high above the treetops and literally fell onto the ship that was to pick her up, climbed underneath it, and pulled herself inside. She and Helios reviewed the footage as she went home.
That night, she dreamt of trees.
Author's Note: I sound like a nerd but I clocked over 100 Hours on April 4th :D
I wrote this out after doing an Earth Mission as Nova and thinking before I went to Extraction about how much of the world could be used for stories that have yet been untold. Granted, I didn't actually use Helios since Carrier is much more useful in game but I digress.
