It was 12am. Beastboy was sprawled on the coach in the common room watching T.V. The only noise in the room was the low sounds coming from the device that often got interrupted by the loud shatters of thunder outside. He had gotten used to it by now, especially the bright lightning that came with the storm. Paying no more attention the storm outside he focused his senses to the T.V. Sensing a presence nearby Beastboy turned his gaze to the doorway. A black shadow stood there against a sudden white flash of lightning. He jumped back slightly before squinting his eyes so his enhanced senses could make out the figure.
"R...Raven?" He asked, confused.
"I…I…was just coming to make some tea" she muttered then jumped as thunder erupted once again. Raven ignored her reaction and quickly began moving towards the kitchen. As she passed him he grabbed her wrist making her halt.
"Are you ok?" his voice was filled with concern. His eyes stared into her own looking for an answer, but she diverted her gaze and pulling away.
"I'm fine" she mumbled and carried on. His hand shot out again but this time held on to her more tightly.
"You don't look or sound fine to me. What's wrong." He pressed.
She stared at him with wide eyes. Arguing with him right now would be pretty pointless and a waste of time so she might as well cut to the chase. Sighing in defeat she began.
"I had a nightmare…about the team…about Trigon…" Raven muttered almost inaudibly. She felt so small, so weak, so helpless which was so unlike her. However he had heard it loud and clear. She needed comfort and that was that. Whether the dark girl liked it or not he was there for her and he would help.
His hands left hers briefly before wrapping around her in a soft hug. She didn't move. She knew she had to object but…she didn't want to leave the comfort of his arms because for once she actually felt safe. Slowly Raven raised her hands under his clasping his shoulders and buried her face in his chest. Tears began falling from her eyes as she cried silently into his embrace. It wasn't right but she didn't care.
"Shhhh…" he hushed quietly while running his hands down her hair. "It won't happen, it was just a nightmare." She nodded slightly but gripped him harder. "Don't worry, Raven, I'm here for you."
His words were pure. She felt it.
"Thank you" she whispered. Pulling away slightly he looked down at her. Her eyes were red and swollen and her cheeks were stained with tears. He reached over wiping away any remains from both her cheeks with his thumb.
"Do you want to lay with me? At least until you calm down?" he offered but wouldn't have let her go either way.
Raven thought about it for amount, 'well he's seen me like this already so it couldn't get any worse' she thought. She shrugged and he led her over to the couch laying down sideways against the back. He pulled her down with him and wrapped his arms around her waist pulling her closer. She snuggled closer into his chest as he rested his chin on her head. He began making calming patterns on her back which lulled her slowly to sleep.
A smile broke out on his face as he watched her sleep. She was asleep in his arms, 'it really couldn't get any better' he thought before drifting off to sleep himself.
