Alone under the cover of all these trees Sylar let his thoughts drift.

He had no idea how he had gotten here. Wherever 'here' was. Clearly a woodland somewhere. But none of that mattered, there was an old feeling of peace, almost tranquility even.

Peace was not something Sylar was used to feeling but that did not mean he was not enjoying it.

Sylar sat on the ground and looked up. The spring leaves were a bright green and the sunlight shining on them made them glow like precious stones.

His need to understand was fast fading, leaving him with just an appreciation of his surroundings. Inch by inch Sylar was returning to Gabriel Gray and it felt good!

Again Gabriel let his thoughts drift but this time he was thinking them as Gabriel Gray and not Sylar.

Maybe he didn't have to be a monster?

No use denying it, that is what he had become. The burning desire to know, to understand.

It had led him to kill. To kill for power.

Only monsters kill for power.

He did not want to be a monster anymore!

Gabriel stood and brushed himself down.

"I do not want to kill anymore. I am a watchmaker! I fix things, not break them. Not kill them!" He said aloud to himself.

Walking along a dirt path he came to a wooden bridge, beneath which ran a stream.

Looking down at his reflection in the water he saw two parts of himself both fighting for dominance. Gabriel Gray who was not particularly special but at least he was not a monster and Sylar who was not only special but powerful too. Both sides locked in a fight to the death for control.

It was unsettling to Gabriel that he wished Sylar would win. He knew how it would be of Sylar won. He would be a monster again.

That thought was unbearable.

If someone was to look at it from a religious point of view they would tell Gabriel that part of him was an angel and that part of him was the devil.

Oh how biblical.

How like mother.

Mother.

She was dead. It had been Sylar's fault. Or had it been Gabriel's fault? Could he blame Sylar when really all Sylar was was an extension of Gabriel?

No matter what way he looked at it he had killed his mother.

A hot tear trailed its way down his cheek.

He sniffed and wiped it away.

Gabriel and Sylar were the same person.

One person. A balance of good innocence and heartless evil.

But here in among the trees Gabriel could hide. Hide from the monster within. Hidden in the darkest depths of his soul.

He knew once he left this place Sylar would return.

This is what made Gabriel Gray realise that he must stay here. Stay in this woodland where he was in control, not Sylar.

At least until he was strong enough to fight Sylar.

And win.

So this just came to me, quite literally. I put pen to paper and this happened. Let me know what you think, maybe go easy though yeah? This is my first attempt at a Heroes. Hope it does this wonderful fandom justice!
