Birthday

"Hey Miwa, I have something for you," Kai slowly pulled something out of his jacket pocket. "What is it Kai?" Miwa watched curiously as he took out a box. "Don't tell me that has a ring in it," Miwa said jokingly. "It does," Kai answered in a serious tone. "Kai?" Miwa watched as Kai got on one knee and held the box out on the palm of his hand. "I want you to be mine," Miwa stood there in shock; his face flushed with a bright red. He stumbled on his words, not quite knowing what to say. "W-wai….I-….wha-…" Kai interrupts Miwa before he can continue. "Happy Birthday Miwa, and April Fools," It took Miwa a while to take in that he fell for Kai's prank. "Seriously you shouldn't joke about this kind of stuff! And you didn't mean anything you said right?" Kai doesn't answer and starts walking away. Miwa sighs. That Kai. "Hey wait for me Kai!"

Goodbye at the Airport

"Ne Kai, promise me something," Miwa looked at Kai with endearing eyes. "What is it?" he asked. "That you'll bring me back sweets!" Miwa's seriousness when saying that made Kai chuckle a bit. "Honestly I thought you were going to say something like promise me you'll return…..but sure, I promise I'll bring you back sweets," Miwa gave Kai a bright smile, but then looked away. "What's wrong?" Kai asked. Miwa turned around and looked at Kai, giving him another smile, one that wasn't genuine, and Kai could tell it wasn't. "It's nothing really….I'm just overthinki-" before Miwa could finish his sentence, he found Kai's arms around him. "Kai?" he asked, "You're not the only one who will be lonely, I will be too you know!" Miwa could feel tears falling down his face. "Why…..why did you have to say it? I wanted your memory of today to be happy….I wanted to send you off with a smile!" Kai took a step away and wiped away gently wiped Miwa's tears away with his hands. "But that would mean sending me off with lies," Kai glanced at his watch. "Sorry, but it's time for me to go now," Miwa grabbed Kai's hand. "Wait! One more thing, promise me you'll return," Kai gently smiled. "I promise,"

"I'll be here waiting for you…" Miwa said with a smile.

A Winter Night

"Wake up Kai!" Kai rubbed his eyes and looked at the alarm clock on the desk next to his bed. "It's 3 in the morning Miwa; what do you want?" Miwa put a smile on his face and looked at Kai. "Put on your coat and come with me," Kai did what he was told and got out of bed. Miwa took Kai's hand and led him out of the bedroom, and outside to the apartment balcony. They stepped outside to the refreshing cold air. Miwa looked at the view below with gleaming eyes. Everything from the roofs of houses to the tiniest tree branch was covered in a sparkling layer of snow. "So this was what you wanted to show me," Kai said while looking closely at the expression on Miwa's face. Miwa nodded. "We haven't seen anything this together since we were kids. And you promised, remember?" Kai smiled. "How could I forget? You would sleepover at my house and jump on bed in the middle of the night to wake me up just to get a view of the new-fallen snow," Miwa's eyes still concentrated on the view of the town below them. "It's not like I had a choice. Besides, by morning, the plows and snow blowers would have spoiled everything," Kai's hand was still wrapped around Miwa's. It felt especially warm compared to the coldness of the air around them."Hey Kai, promise you'll never forget me. I promise I'll never forget you," Miwa embraced Kai in a hug and pushed him into the sofa behind them. "I promise. So what makes you ask?" Kai asks, as Miwa snuggles comfortably next to him. "Oh nothing," Miwa replied as the two of them leaned back and watched more flakes fall from the starlit sky; staying next to each other like that until morning.
