He hisses; his tongue like sandpaper against his blistered skin.
His eyes screw shut; retinas scorched by the blazing inferno.
Jumbled words float in the sludge of his mind; trap, heat, fire … demons.
The flap of wings curves his mouth into a relieved smile; his token 'Personal space, dude' uttered through a breathless, raspy voice.
Panic soon follows; the air devoid of his friend's normal monotone response.
An urgent call of his name in the distance forces his eyes open; they gaze upon the creature that hovers right above him, wings black and foreboding; summoned from Hell itself.
