Thomas: Escape from the scrap yard

I'm back with yet another story. My little brother got the idea and asked me to write this and put it on here. Sort of like Rev. Awdry's story "Escape" from Enterprising Engines but not really. It's got the same basic idea. Tell me what you think of it.

One day, Duck was at Wellsworth station collecting workmen to take to a broken signal on the main line. Just then, Donald and Douglas arrived. "What are ya doing here Ducky?" Douglas asked in his usual Scottish accent.

"I'm here to take workmen to a broken signal on the mainline. What are you two doing here?"

"The Fat Controller's making us do goods work on Thomas' branch line. And we've also got a mixed goods going to the other railway tonight. But we'll still be on the branch. Could you take it for us?"

"Of course," smiled Duck. "I'll be glad to." And he puffed away with the workman. Later that night, true to his word, Duck left for the other railway with the goods. It didn't take long for him to arrive, but the yard he was in was blanketed by fog. Fog or no fog, Duck shunted the trucks into their proper sidings and arranged some more trucks onto his train for the return journey. But just as he was about to leave, his fire died out and he had no more coal to start again. Duck was trapped!

Meanwhile on Sodor…

Thomas was running the night shift on his branch line, pulling his coaches down to the harbor. He found Donald & Douglas still shunting trucks for the morning work. "Where's Duck?" Thomas asked.

"He took our goods train to the other railway for us. But he should've been back by now." Thomas was worried. He uncoupled from his coaches and left for the other railway to find his friend.

Later, he arrived at the yard Duck was supposed to be at. Thomas gasped at what he saw. Parts of old steam engines lay in piles covered in rust all around him. It was a scrap yard! Thomas puffed bravely on, looking for Duck. After an hour of searching, he came across his Great Western friend. "There you are, Duck! I've been looking for you. Are you all right?"

"Yes, just get me out of here!" Duck replied. Thomas coupled up to Duck and his train and the two engines headed for home.

As dawn broke, they crossed over the bridge to their own railway. Thomas pulled Duck to a coal bunker where he took on more coal, and he had a fire in his firebox again. "Thank you for rescuing me, Thomas. The Fat Controller is right. You're a really useful engine!" Thomas smiled.

"Your welcome, Duck. And thank you for saying that." And Thomas puffed away back to his branch line.
