So here it is. I really don't know what it is. It was just supposed to be Watari's POV on his death but instead this happened. But here it is nonetheless. Also, is anyone else annoyed that everyone just focuses on L dying? Watari was beyond awesome! Anyway, enjoy This unreasonably short one shot.
He knew he was going to die. He knew it from the second L said he was interested in the case. Regardless of the confidence the entire team was showing in both him and L, Watari knew he would not be making it out of this investigation alive.
The night of November 5th, 2004 was just like any other night. Nothing seemed different.
Watari sat at his computer with L's image on one of the smaller screens. L had just announced that he wanted to test the notebook. Naturally, the idea wasn't popular with many.
Choosing to ignore all protest, L leaned in towards the computer and spoke.
"Watari," he said calmly, "contact the heads of all the states which fit into that situation."
Right after that the pain started. Watari thought nothing of it at first. Then he saw the shinigami.
Rem was standing behind L and next to Light, who was wearing a look that could only be described as the look of one who had just reached their greatest desire. The look of a mad man.
In that moment Watari knew that Light Yagami was Kira.
Reaching out, Watari quickly pressed two buttons. The first sent a file to L's computer. The second deleted everything.
He looked up at the screen showing L and the others. "Goodbye L." He said quietly. "And good luck."
Light Yagami opened the last unexplored file on L's computer. He started to read.
L, if you are reading this, that means I have been killed by Kira. It also means I know who Kira is. Light Yagami and Kira are one and the same. I trust you know this and will be able to use the following information to prove this. Thank you, and good luck.

A slow smile spread across Lights face. Poor Watari. All his efforts for nothing. L died before ever seeing the evidence. With a laugh, Light deleted the file.
