How to tell the difference between a Mary-Sue and OC.
Mary-Sue's are much more common than and OC.
The characteristics of an OC.
- They are not the main characters, usually.
- They are usually friends of the Mary-Sue or Main Canon Character.
- They are not overly described.
- They don't have special powers.
- Falls in love with Ron, Neville, Remus a.k.a the unimportant people.
The characteristics of a Mary-Sue.
- They are Main Characters.
- Will fall in love with either Harry or Draco. No one else.
- Had a bad childhood.
- Long Name.
- Beautiful.
- In there 7th year.
- EVERYONE loves them.
- Except Snape and Voldemort.
- Skinny.
- Doesn't wear make-up.
- Yet she's beautiful.
- Has an independent attitude.
- Kills Voldemort. NOT HARRY. Who needs the prophecy anyway?
- Is the daughter of Snape (The reason why Snape hates her)
- or is Harry's Twin (She falls in love with Draco in this situation, and reason why Snape hates her)
- is Dumbledore's Granddaughter (Well Snape hates her because well, she's popular!)
Here are a few examples of a story.
OC! (Ashley is her name)
As Hermione was packing her bags her friend Ashley walked in.
"Oh hey Hermione guess what!" Said Ashley.
"What?" Hermione said.
"Neville said yes to go to the dance with me!" Ashley squeeled.
Hermione knew that Ashley had a crush on Neville FOREVER.
- Did you notice it was in Hermione's POV and she wasn't described at all. Not even once.
Also she got with Neville. Not with Harry or Draco.
Mary-Sue! (Raven Skylar Maria Mercury June July Dumbledore)
Hi, I'm Raven Skylar Maria Mercury June July Dumbledore, but you can just call me Skylar. My Grandfather Dumbledore is letting me finally go to Hogwarts, even though I'm seventeen. I was homeschooled by my mother and father, who died last year by Voldemort. Well I am 5' 7". I have Blonde Hair, with purple Streaks, but it's natural. I am really skinny, but it's weird because I eat ALL the time. Also I have no pimples, because I am lucky. I have a small chest. Only DD .…..
When I got on the Hogwarts express all the boys were looking at me like I was the most beautiful thing on the planet (which I am so NOT).….

Than Harry looked directly in my eyes holding me close, "Raven Skylar Maria Mercury June July Dumbledore I love you so much" Than he leaned in slowly and we kissed passionately.

Well you notice she has a REALLY long name. She is beautiful. She defeated Voldemort. And fell in Love with Harry.
What do you do if you come across a Mary-Sue, well if your into that kind of thing, than read it.
If your like me and tired of them, than just click the back button and go to another story. That simple eh?
