Your Eyes
Severus ran through the gory field, tears streaming down his face. The final battle had just taken place. Voldemort was gone. But Harry was unable to be found. So many bodies lay strewn about. So many innocent lives lost. But he could not find the one person that kept him alive. On top of a hill, he spotted a mop of black hair. He ran towards it.
It was, indeed, Harry. He was lifeless as Severus cradled him in his arms. He cried out loudly in sorrow, wondering if this was punishment for his recent rash attitude. He had broken up with him, afraid of the events that were to soon occur. He was afraid that death would follow if any Death Eaters found out their relationship. Now he regretted it all, wishing that he could start again.
Green eyes flitted open suddenly. Harry gave a weak cough. Severus rubbed his back, all whilst saying, "Harry, please listen. I have something to tell you." He cleared his throat.
"Your eyes, as we said our goodbyes, can't get them out of my mind, and I find I can't hide." He recalled that painful day. Emerald eyes had been welled up with tears. It had taken every bit of strength possible to not break down crying, and he had spent several days after doing just that.
"From your eyes, the ones that took me by surprise, the night you came into my life, where there's moonlight I see your eyes." After a particularly brutal Death Eater meeting, during which he had been punished for failure of an assignment, he had gone for a walk out to the lake to sit and think, as he often did. To his surprise, he had found
the newly appointed DADA teacher, Harry, in the location. He was sitting serenely, and Severus decided to turn and leave. A small voice met his. "Severus, please don't leave. I must speak with you." He walked towards the form and sat down. "You see, I can't help but find that I'm in love with you." He gasped, and blurted out, "I feel the same way." Moonlight sheltered the event, and emerald orbs met onyx ones, as they leaned in for a kiss.
"How'd I let you slip away, when I'm longing so to hold you, now I'd die for one more day, because there's something I should have told you, yes there's something I should have told you, when I looked into your eyes, why does distance make us wise?"
Nearly three months had passed since they had broken up, and Severus had been sick over the event, wanting nothing more than to hold the-boy-whom-he-loved in his arms. Every day was spent re-living every sequence in his mind. He made every attempt possible to avoid him, wanting distance. But the sight of his love had been too much. That morning, he had gone to find Harry, and to ask for forgiveness. Unfortunately, the battle had been prompted moments earlier, and all able were called to the cause. In all the rush, he was unable to find him. This was the reason for the current predicament. He held the weak young man in his arms, weeping and telling him his final words.
"You were the song all along, and before this song dies, I should tell you, I should tell you, I have always loved you, you can see it in my eyes." Harry reached up to Severus's face, getting his attention. "I love you, too," he whispered. The two kissed fervently, before Harry drew away. He closed his eyes, smiling, and went limp.
