Alex In Wonderland

Prologue

"Cain," Alex calls "Here boy!" Cain hesitates for a moment then charges at Alex's legs, stopping just before dog and boy became a tangled mess on the ground. Alex looks down at Cain with a stern face, and Cain looks back at him innocently. Then Alex's stern face dissolves into laughter, as this was a game the two often play. With the remnants of laughter still on his lips Alex starts for the familiar woods behind his house. Cain immediately leads the way, nose pressed to the ground, sniffing and gathering information that only smells can provide. The bushes rustle off to the right, and Alex turns his head just quick enough to catch a glimpse of something white disappearing into the forest. Cain darts off the path, taking off after the flash of white. Alex hesitates, unsure if he should follow Cain into an unfamiliar part of the forest. Curiosity becoming unbearable, he starts running and soon finds himself staring at a large hole in the earth. Assuming it to be an animal den, Alex crouches down to take a closer look, when a bump sends him sprawling into a hole much deeper than it should have been. The last thing he hears before plummeting into unconsciousness is the sound of Cain's barking echoing down into the hole.

Chapter One

As consciousness floods back into Alex, he becomes aware of a dull throbbing in the back of his head. The throbbing soon develops into more of an ache, prompting a groan from the young man. His eyes quickly open to a bright, blue sky. He scans the sky for tree tops, assuming that the bright flash was nothing more than his bodies' natural reaction to a falling branch knocking him down. However, Alex doesn't see any trees, nor does he see any clouds. He does however see what appears to be a bird. Well, at least, having a bird's wings. The creature in question had a much more humanoid physique. Alex sighs, contemplating if he might have a head wound. He didn't feel wet beneath his head. "Good", he mutters to himself, "At least I'm not bleeding". Gathering up his strength he pulls himself to his feet. "Oh dear, I'm brain damaged," Alex thinks as he comes face to face with a purple flower standing six feet in height, smiling at him.

"Hello," smiles the flower, "you must be Alex". Just as Alex starts feeling a little faint he's almost bowled over by Cain while in pursuit of a young blonde woman. Able to focus on something he knows to be real, he's able to right himself and start chasing after Cain and the mysterious girl. "Cain!" Alex shouts, "leave her alone! Let's just find a way home O.K.?" He follows the pair to a dirt path lined on both sides by rhododendron bushes before losing sight of them both. He sighs knowing that calling Cain would be pointless, as the dog only listened when he wanted to. Up ahead he sees a shade tree. Good, he thinks as he makes his way towards it, he wanted a cool place to sit down as it was an unnaturally hot day for March and his head still hurt.
