Serena could hear the despair in Blair's voice. It began to eat her inside, those simple words of need began to eat her inside. She knew she had to leave, she knew she had to be by Blair's side. The muffled crying was enough to break her.
Serena took off from the dinner with the Humphrey's, keeping her mother and brother at the table. She ran outside to the streets, hailing for a taxi cab to stop. As soon as a cab stopped in front of her, she quickly jumped in and directed the driver to her intended destination.
The faint sounds of sniffling echoed through the blonde's ears, shattering what security she had down the drain. The thought of Blair hurt in any way sent her heart in torment. Every second had her wonder what was happening to Blair, what she was doing, what she was thinking.
As soon as she arrived to her destination, she quickly tipped the driver and made her way inside. Every step she took made her heart beat relentlessly, each making her breath ragged. She looked into the dining room, finding Blair's mother and other guests, but no father. Serena made her way upstairs and into Blair's room, but she was not there. The reality of the situation dawned on Serena and she headed to the bathroom.
Each step Serena took to the closed bathroom door, the louder she could hear her heart beat as well as hear the faint sounds of strained whimpering.
"Hey, it's me," Serena reluctantly whispered, gently knocking on the door, making her presence known. She turned the doorknob and lightly pushed the door open, finding a reflection of a tear-stricken Blair from the mirror across the room. Serena turned to her right and found Blair sitting on the floor, leaning against the wall, beside the tub, crying.
"I didn't mean for it to happen," Blair choked out. No small talk, the young woman cut immediately to the point of Serena's being there. Serena knelt down and took a seat beside the brunette, heart shattered at the sight. Blair took a deep breath, sniffing back what other tears were ready to fall.
"I didn't see your dad downstairs." Blair exhaled a deep and annoyed breath.
"My mother just decides everything, you know. Everything in the world is just totally up to her."
"I know," Serena whispered, pulling Blair closer to her, letting her head rest against shoulder. She lightly kissed Blair on the head, letting her know she was there for her; there to care.
"Hey, I wanna get outta here." Blair deeply breathed, pulling away from Serena.
"I'm not going back to that party," Blair replied, not wanting to return the control of her mother.
"No, I mean out of here, out of here. Out of this apartment to a place a little more sane," Serena suggested, hoping Blair would agree. She watched the brunette sigh and turn away.
"Any place would qualify," Blair answered, shaking her head as she turned back to Serena. A faint smile crossed her lips as she felt Serena pulled her back against her.
As soon as they left, Blair seemed to be lighter at heart.
"No matter how many times I push you away, you always come back," Blair randomly stated, as she and Serena walked down the streets of Manhattan. She heard a faint laugh from the blonde, averting her attention towards her.
"I always have a reason to come back," Serena replied, glancing towards Blair.
"I should stop giving you reasons."
"You can never stop giving me reasons, I'll always come back," Serena sincerely said, taking hold of Blair's hand. Blair looked down at their entwined hands and smiled.
"You always know what makes me smile."
"B, no matter what, I'll always be here to make you smile."
