Rain drummed against the windshield of the car as it sped down the wide, empty highway. The two people inside were silent, the radio playing softly in the background. The storm overhead seemed to only encompass the road, and far ahead, the colors of a warm summer sunset could be seen filtering through the clouds. Prussia sighed in contentment from the driver's seat. How long had it been since it had been this quiet? Far too long, he decided. It was a precious, surreal moment, the kind that could make you start contemplating everything in your life if you let it.
He glanced to the passenger seat and saw Canada was asleep, or at least his eyes were closed. It had been a long day for the both of them, and it was late. The World Meeting had dragged on for longer than anybody had anticipated, and Prussia was thankful the blond was getting some rest. There was a long trip home ahead of them still, and Prussia would probably be driving late into the night. He didn't mind, though. He didn't feel tired in the least.
Canada mumbled sleepily, his head lolled against the seatbelt. He was just too sweet when he slept. The blond curls of his hair were tousled and sticking out in odd places, and his eyes moved underneath his lids, indicating he was dreaming. If the little smile he wore even while he slept was anything to go by, it was a good dream. Prussia smiled fondly and turned his attention back to the road. The poor northern nation was missing out on the beauty of this sunset, was sleeping away a rare, marvelous moment. Prussia decided to pull over to the side of the road and wake him up.
"Matthew," he whispered while he parked the car and turned off the engine. "Matthew, wake up."
"Hmm?" Canada murmured, opening bleary eyes. "Gil? Are we there yet?"
"No, look at this." Prussia pointed to the sky. The break in the clouds was larger now, and reds and pinks and purples shone down, flooding the world in pre-dusk light. The rain still tumbled down, reflecting the sky's hues on the road. They splashed into the car, bathing the passengers with the colors of the sunset.
"Wow…" Canada whispered in sleepy awe. "It's beautiful…"
Neither nation could take their eyes away from the lovely work of nature. Canada reached for the radio in the dashboard in attempts to turn down the volume, but Prussia took his hand and pushed it away.
"Don't," he said, adjusting the volume back. "It's fine."
They exchanged a look, and Canada peeked down at their touching hands, probably expecting Prussia to pull away, but he never did. Instead, his fingers curled around Canada's and settled their hands between them. Heartbeats sped up and slowed back down again as the passengers turned their attention back to the sunset.
As the colors of the sky slowly faded into dusky blues and greys, they held hands and watched, just like that. The peace was finally broken by Prussia who looked to Canada and gave him a smile.
"I just thought I'd share that with you," he said as he separated their hands and turned the car back on. He pulled back onto the road and started driving again, steering with one hand and lazily draping the other next to him. Canada took the initiative to wind their fingers together once again, and smiled.
"Thank you," he mumbled, starting to nod off once again. "For sharing, I mean."
Yes, it was a rare moment indeed.
"You're welcome."
A/N: The fluff... It's in my braaaaain.
So I've been reading a lot of stuff by p0ck3tf0x, and she always seems to be able to achieve this beautiful, surreal mood when she writes. I thought I'd give it a try. Did I do okay? Did ya like it? :3

Thanks for reading! Please leave a review and let me know how I did :)
