This takes place a few days before the movie starts:
It was a sunny afternoon at the palace of the Romanovs. Little Princess Anastasia was in her playroom, eagerly watching outside the main window, awaiting the carriage that held her dear grandmama. Suddenly, in the distance, she saw it.
"Grandmama!" she said excitedly. Then she ran out the room and down the stairs to the front door. Jumping up and down, she stared at it anxiously.
When it opened and the Dowager Empress Marie entered, Anya smiled and they hugged.
"Oh, Anastasia, you always can't wait to see me!" Marie said, running her hand through Anya's hair and across her face. "But right now, I've got to talk to your parents."
The Empress headed for The Mauve Room, which was Nicholas and Alexandra's favorite room of their palace. That's where they would be, waiting for Marie.
Anya followed, curious.
