Vague hints of Seishitou/Subaru and Subaru/Kamui.
--
Subaru blinks, opens his eyes for half a second before closing them again.
The sky is grey.
"Who are you?" Subaru asks blindly, eyes squeezed shut. "Where's Seishirou-san?"
"Subaru," a familiar voice calls, "it's Kamui." He pauses. Subaru waits for the second answer, but it never came.
"Am I dead yet?" His eyes are still closed.
His head is on Kamui's lap, Kamui's hand stroking his hair. It doesn't make him feel anything.
It doesn't make him feel.
"…No."
"Oh."
There is a silence, deafening yet not, but it doesn't bother Subaru at all. But he breaks it anyway.
"Why I am still here?"
Kamui doesn't stiffen, just leans down to touch his cheek and says, softly, gently, more of a whisper than anything else. "Because I need you."
Subaru isn't sure of what to do, so he asks, "Is it what Seishirou-san would want me to do?"
Kamui hesitates. "Yes."
"Oh," Subaru says again and gave a tiny smile, small and empty and not meaning anything. Heartbreaking. "Okay, then."
His eyes don't open when Kamui brushes his lips on his forehead, and the first drops of rain fall.
It is raining.
There is lightning and thunder, and heavy stones drop down from destroyed buildings. The smell of ash is everywhere. The rain hurts and made Kamui wince, and they don't taste of anything.
Does it matter?
Does it matter anymore?
No.
He doesn't care at all.
