The day started out fairly normal. Namine screeched in worry - and annoyance - at Roxas several times, not an uncommon thing to do on the weekend, let alone all summer. This time, Roxas was about to leap off of the roof of Namine's two-story house. "You're going to kill yourself!" she wailed, insisting for him to get down, without jumping. He grinned at her. She tried not to focus on how cute he was. High school infatuation, eh? Or, soon enough, young adult infatuation. Namine and Roxas had just graduated from their senior year at Twilight Town High, and things were going pretty smoothly.
"Get down from there, Roxas!" Namine pled. Roxas, being the annoying child that he is, shrugged. "Alright, fine." With that remark (comment, statement, whatever you wish to call it), he bent his knees and jumped off of the roof like a frog. Or a seven-year-old. Or both!
Namine followed him with her eyes, seeing that he ended up in the middle of the street. He stood there, dusting off his jeans. She rolled her eyes and he grinned at her again. Slowly, Namine opened her mouth and said, "Car." Roxas rushed to her side, looking back only to see absolutely no traffic. He shook his head before leaning down and kissing her cheek. "Nami, babe, I'm going to miss you like hell," he told her, repeating the same thing he'd been saying for days. "Roxas!" she protested. "You make me feel horrible about leaving!"
He shrugged again, then wrapped an arm around her waist. "I'm sorry, babe, but I can't just… I can't just get over you. You're the best thing that's ever happened to me!" he exclaimed. She crossed her arms and turned away from him. She knew for a fact that she was not the best thing in his life. He had plenty of other friends - girls, mind you - and a loving family. He had good grades and a scholarship for basketball. Another thing that Namine simply could not get over was that her boyfriend wasn't a virgin. I suppose not many seniors are, but still! she thought to herself.
"Shut up, Roxas," Namine said quietly, as if she didn't actually mean it.
"Namine, babe-"
"Shut up, Roxas!" Namine hollered, tears welling up in the corners of her eyes. She often cried when she was rude to Roxas. It just wasn't her nature.
Things were quiet for a little while as Namine cooled off. Thoughts raced through both of the teens' minds. Finally, Roxas broke the silence.
"I'm going to miss you, Namine. You were so fun in high school." Namine almost took this as an insult, but she knew better. Roxas would never deliberately try to hurt her.
"I have to go, Roxas," Namine mumbled with tear-filled eyes. She walked in a straight line to her front door, leaving Roxas behind her, physically, and possibly emotionally, too.
"God damn it," Roxas muttered as he steered toward his own home. He kicked a small rock out of his path. "Why does she hate me?" He walked home with his hands in his pockets, staring at his shoes.
