Hey everyone, Bookworm247 here with new a brand new story.
I've really been looking forward to writing this one, half way through writing Thin Ice. Unlike some of my Sasuke and Naruto stories, this one isn't a yaoi. (Don't worry shippers I still love them together) This time, I'm going to make their relationship eventual brotherly Sasuke.
Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto.
Warning this story will contain some chapters that some readers may find upsetting. I will put warnings up when it happens.
My Only Name
Prologue
The valley of the end. A location that stood on the very edge of the land of fire. Surrounded by a dense forest and a spectacular waterfall. This place was more known for its history than scenery. Ninja and tourists alike knew this place for a battle that took place between Madara Uchiha and Hashirama Senju clashed. Years after their historic battle, two giant statues were carved either side of the waterfall, as a way to remind people of their past and prevent any further battles like it.
But as time has shown people many times, history has a horrible habit of repeating itself. Years after their great battle, the valley yet again became the setting for the second time. Much like the first Hokage this fight was a clash between two friends.
All round the beautiful landscape was now littered with various craters, burning trees not even the two stone monuments were spared. At the foot of the colossal waterfall two young boys after their fight. One stood upright while the other lay motionless on the ground.
Sasuke Uchiha, the last of his once most powerful clan in Kohana, wearing a navy Blue t-shirt with a red and white fan on the back. Pale skin and with hair as dark as the night sky.
A slightly shorter blond wearing an eye-popping orange-jumpsuit.
Earlier there wasn't a cloud in the sky, as their fight progressed rain clouds slowly rolled in until the last rays of sunlight disappeared behind the dark clouds, It wasn't long before the first raindrops hit the ground in seconds the light drizzle turned into a heavy downpour. Bruised and numb from his injuries, Sasuke barely felt the cold water seeping into his clothes. His fore-head protector slipped off and crashed to the floor. The silence gave Sasuke a welcomed opportunity to reflect on everything that just happened.
Even with his now fully developed sharingan and enhanced curse mark, he'd barely defeated Naruto, proving once and for all he was the strongest. But his victory didn't fill him with satisfaction or elation just the opposite. Severing his bond with Naruto proved much harder than he could ever imagine. "Now there's nothing to stop me from obtaining the same power as Itachi," he thought. Ever since the raven's encounter. To awaken this powerful ocular Jutsu required an Uchiha to kill his closest friend. Sasuke had known this fact from a very young age.
After the death of his parents, Sasuke believed that no one could ever become that close to him again. Yet against all odds, the hyperactive blond became that person. With Naruto injured and unconscious, there was only a small matter of stopping Naruto's breathing to take his Sharingan to the next level.
The surrounding environment provided the raven with a wide variety of methods to kill his now former-comrade. After going through the various options from drowning to slitting the blond's throat. Sasuke eventually settled on simply smothering Naruto with his bare hands.
Choosing a method was easy, but now Sasuke had to actually go through with it. Swallowing hard, the avenger went to complete his final step. The young boy lowered himself down to the wet ground.
Sasuke didn't feel confident. "I can do this," he told himself.
Before Sasuke even started, the blue-clad encountered his first hurdle, despite their constant bickering, fights in the past. The Uchiha didn't want Naruto to suffer. Like a true ninja, Sasuke shook this morbid thought from his mind. "I can't afford to hesitate; there could be ninja already on their way here," he reminded himself. "Besides he's unconscious, he won't feel a thing."
No sooner did Sasuke tell himself this, another troubling thought popped into his head. While it was true Naruto was passed out. It didn't mean the orange-clad could wake up once he cut off Naruto's air supply. The raven didn't want to see the life leave Naruto's eyes. "If he starts to struggle I just won't look down." Sasuke's breathing began to increase. His hands started shaking as they hovered just inches above Naruto's face. The closer he got to Naruto's mouth, the more the raven could feel the blond's warm breaths hitting the palm of his hands.
Before he could go through with it, Itachi's words echoed in his mind. "Fight me when you possess these my eyes, you'll have to kill your best friend." As soon as Quickly took his hand away, as if he'd received an electric shock. Before now, Sasuke always believed he needed to follow Itachi's path was the only way to fight his brother.
But now the thought of giving the satisfaction repulsed Sasuke. "No, if I want to fight Itachi and avenge I'll find power my own way." Inspired by this new epiphany the defiant Uchiha stood up. Muscles began to ache. "I've wasted enough time here," he winced. turned to leave. After turning his back, Sasuke felt something cold and wet grabbed his leg.
Instinct and intuition told the Uchiha it wasn't a branch or plant foliage attached to his limb. "Typical." He sighed. The avenger inside Sasuke instructed him not to stop and carry on walking. Slowly Sasuke gazed down to see, Naruto's azure eyes half open, with so little strength and chakra remaining, this was the blond's last resort to stop him from leaving.
Naruto started speaking. "D…on't go," the weakened blond rasped.
On another day, Sasuke would turn down his team-mate's request without even batting an eyelid, but exhausted and drained, the avenger couldn't keep his emotions in check as well. Unable to answer with a retort, the black-haired teen just sighed with pity. "I thought I already told you, it's too late, Naruto." Without taking a second glance, the Uchiha pulled his leg free with ease.
This didn't seem to stop Naruto from calling out to him. "Sasuke, please stop." He called.
Before Naruto's desperate pleas could start affecting him, Sasuke kept walking until he could no longer hear the rasping voice.
Sasuke slowly sat up in his bed. "It's just a dream." He told himself
Three days had passed since he'd stumbled into Orochimaru's lair since then Kabuto had dressed his wounds. With Orochimaru slowly adapting to his new body, there wasn't much l for Sasuke to do other than heal. When the last of his drowsiness faded, the black-haired teen spotted Kabuto sitting on the edge of his bed. Unless his bandages needed changing, Sasuke avoided Kabuto as much as possible. In a short space of time, Sasuke had already resolved that living with the medical ninja wasn't going to change his opinion of the former leaf spy.
"What do you want?" Sasuke asked coldly.
Orochimaru's faithful assistant smiled. "I just came to give you these," Kabuto explained placing a fresh set of clothes on the bed. "I'm sure you'll be pleased to learn, that Lord Orochimaru is feeling well enough to begin your training."
Since his fight with Naruto left his old outfit in tatters. White shirt and purple cord, these features bore an uncomfortable resemblance to the Sannin's outfit.
Whether it was his rushed pace or perhaps something in his body language that gave him away, Kabuto seemed to notice his reluctance to wear his outfit. "I thought you might feel a bit odd in these, so I added a personal touch to yours." As the spy explained he help up the white shirt to show him the changes he'd made. On the back of the long-sleeved shirt, Sasuke saw red and white fan hand sewed into the fabric.
Eger to train Sasuke was prepared to overlook fashion sense. "It doesn't matter what I look like, today I start walking my own path." Obtaining power wasn't Sasuke's only reason for the raven's eagerness to train. Sasuke knew that once he began his training, he could start washing out the last of his connection with Kohana. As the raven continued to get dressed, he became uncomfortably aware that Kabuto hadn't left the room.
Out-of-habit, the medical-ninja adjusted his glasses before he spoke. "Yes, I do actually," Kabuto took out a scroll from his back pocket. "I intercepted that from an ANBU black ops this morning. You may want to read it." The medic gloated, as handing the scroll to the unconcerned Sasuke.
With his inpatient's steadily growing, Sasuke almost shoved the parchment to one side, but the sound-ninja's insistence intrigued the thirteen-year-old. When the pale teen unrolled the scroll. It didn't contain a secret document or a special Jutsu, but a wanted poster.
Not just any random ninja, with his name and face plastered on the front.
Even the stoic teen's eyes widened as he read the
Wanted
Sasuke Uchiha
Dead or Alive
Reward $5,000,000
Slightly rattled by the document, the usually calm raven, Sasuke re-read the poster over and over in disbelief. This didn't come as a complete shock, his village wasn't just going to sit by and defecting from the hidden-leaf without consequence. But the high price tag to his head didn't make sense to the teenager.
Warped up in his thoughts, Sasuke almost forgot Kabuto was still in the room. "I guess I should congratulate you, in the space of a few days you've become the most wanted criminal in the fire. You're almost as famous as your brother."
Sasuke shot the older shinobi a cold look when he referred to Itachi in this way.
To the raven's disappointment, Kabuto didn't seem the least bit intimidated by his fierce glare. "If you want to start training you'd better get ready, unlike your former sensei, Orochimaru-Sama doesn't like to be kept waiting," He advised. "With all the ninja that are going to come after you, you're going to need it." The medic added.
Putting the poster to one side, Sasuke studied the former spies features more closely. Although still new to the art of reading body language, the sharp boy easily detected Kabuto hadn't disclosed all the details. "There's something else he's not telling me." Sasuke reasoned. As the raven looked into onyx eyes, it felt as if Kabuto was begging him to ask questions.
Normally wouldn't have given the medic the satisfaction, but the curious teenager's desire to learn the truth won out. "Why would the Hokage give a missing nin a high bounty?" He asked.
Just as Sasuke expected, the medical ninja's smile grew even wider. "You're wanted for the murder of Uzumaki Naruto."
Ok leaving it there, for now. I know this chapter wasn't that long or interesting, but don't worry, I promise the next chapter will be far more eventful. Apologies for the lack of dialogue, in the beginning. that won't happen too much.
