Following the Exalted Council, Rhian Adaar took up Varric's subtle offer to move to Kirkwall. She decided that her presence in either Fereldan or Orlais would only continue to disturb the governments. Also, Rhian wished to spend time with her aging mother. She couldn't imagine making the elderly woman come all the way from the Freemarches to climb up a freezing mountain side to Skyhold. Not that Rhian was particularly fond of the cold and snow.
Rhian was more than happy to retire the title of Inquisitor, and embraced the title of Comtesse. Comtesse Adaar took many invitations to appear at several balls of the Kirkwall nobility, always appearing in the latest fashionable gowns and at times even setting the trend. In secret, she would continue to exchange messages with the Inquisition and the Divine Victoria, whom she preferred to call Cassandra.
Reunited with old friends from the Valos-Kas and making new ones, Rhian settled easily into the Kirkwall day to day life. Even a few of her brothers decided to move into the manor Varric had provided. When the family first arrived, they found the bones and mummified remains of humans all over the place. They learned that Fenris's former slave master had once owned the manor. No one else had moved into the manor since Fenris had lived there, obviously spooked by the place.
The Adaar family had no problem cleaning the mess up and restoring the manor to its former shine with a tal-vashoth touch. For their neighbors, this meant a number of odd behaviors including the old family matriarch sunbathing topless on the balcony in eyesight of her sons who didn't seem the slightest bit phased. Many complaints were filed with the Kirkwall City Guard.
Rhian and Isabela picked up the relationship they had started when the Admiral had joined the Inquisition. Now that Rhian had more time to herself, Isabela would often be seen entering and leaving the Adaar manor, and the two would often meet in The Hanged Man for drinks.
To the disappointment of many Andrastians, Rhian never stepped foot in the newly built Kirkwall Chantry and she continued to deny being sent by Andraste. Instead, she spent far more time in the elven alienage learning the dalish language and lore from her new friend Merrill. And then Rhian solidified her rivalry with Keira Hawke. Against Hawke's strong oppositions, Rhian began to help Merrill to once again repair her eluvian mirror. Despite her opinion, Hawke didn't bring the issue out to the public, but kept a close eye on Rhian and Merrill's efforts. Hawke believed something was bound to go wrong.
After her mother's inevitable passing, Rhian would begin to leave Kirkwall for several months at a time. Accompanied by the remaining Valos-Kas, either going out to sea with Isabela or mysteriously disappearing with Merrill. When asked what she had been up to, she responded "I'm hunting an old wolf who has well outlived his time."
