Ole Man River
It was a disaster of utterly nightmarish proportions.
A true Hallowe'en horror.
In 1837, on that darkest of nights, the Paddle Steamer 'Monmouth', carrying hundreds of Creek Indians to pastures new, sank with three hundred of her passengers tragically perishing in the freezing depths of the mighty river.
The Winchesters thought they had boxed clever. Having done their research, they figured they knew everything they needed to know about the Mississippi disaster.
What they didn't know, however, was quite how they would deal with the three hundred aggrieved Creek spirits that were striding out of the thundering river toward them.
All they could do was trust that an incantation designed to send one spirit into the abyss would suffice for three hundred. So as Sam prepared to add the final part of the potion, Dean fired salt-round after salt-round, halting the ghostly onslaught; desperate to prevent a "box-in."
Until a spectral arrow slammed into his shoulder, its hell-forged tip slicing deep into flesh and bone.
"DEAN." Sam cried out.
"Finish...it," Dean mumbled, already shivering on the cold, hard ground.
Sam dropped the eagle's feather; instantly the long-dead Creek disappeared and he rushed to his brother's side.
"God...S'mmy," Dean hissed. "Pull...it...out!"
Sam knelt, reaching for Dean's injured shoulder, but the arrow had vanished along with the rest of the ghosts, departed into the night. Good news, except ...
Now there was nothing to stop Dean bleeding out from the jagged hole left behind. Sam gently lifted Dean and grimaced. Strike that, two holes. The arrow gone right through, and worse still, the breath bubbling in Dean's chest indicated it had nicked a lung.
"Hospital, bro."
Ignoring Dean's weak protests and the Impala's tortured gearbox, Sam drove like a madman.
No way he was going to let his brother die, ever again.
