"How do you stand this game, Doc?" B'Elanna asked, scowling down at the lush green hills of Earth's most prestigious golf course.
"I find it relaxing." He replied. "And quite stimulating as well. It's all about physics, you know. Just a bit of force applied in just the right place, and…." He gave the ball an expert tap with his club and it landed in the hole with a satisfying "cha-chunk".
"I would think you, as an engineer, would appreciate the laws of physics." The Doctor continued, turning to his companion and tipping his green plaid hat smartly.
"I do. Just not on the golf course." B'Elanna awkwardly swung her club and hit the ball at the completely wrong angle; sending the ball ricocheting through the holographic trees and out of sight.
The Doctor sighed. "Computer, retrieve ball." The golf ball reappeared in front of B'Elanna, who looked no more pleased to see it than before.
"Try again." He urged. With a low growl, B'Elanna channeled her Klingon strength and smacked the ball as hard as she could. This time, the ball sailed backward, passing through the Doctor's face at incredible speed. The hologram flickered for a moment and then reappeared, looking faintly annoyed.
"Oh! Sorry, Doc. Are you okay?" Even B'Elanna had to suppress a giggle at her atrocious golf skills.
"Fine, although having a golf ball go through one's face is a rather disconcerting experience." B'Elanna threw down her club in frustration.
"Forget it, Doc. Golf just isn't the game for me. Computer, end program." As the golf green around them faded to the grid-like landscape of the holodeck, B'Elanna headed for the door.
"B'Elanna! Wait!" She paused, looking expectantly over her shoulder.
"How do you feel about shuffleboard?"
