I'm cursed she realizes. Every man she even begins to feel for ends up dead. The crush she had on Miguel, their friendship meant so much to her and then he died on Hyperion. And Brody, he'd died too, protecting her no less. She hadn't been in love with either of them. But she could have fallen in love with them over time. Not now. Now they were dead. So was the prison guard from Macronesia. Every man who showed her the slightest bit of emotion ended up dead. Jason was just the latest in a long line.
So she broke up with Jonathan. She couldn't bear to see him die too.
