Ryou goes through life like one raindrop moving down a windowpane. Colorless, silent, even he doesn't see himself sometimes, and none of the other raindrops ever touch him.
All of Domino's under raindrops right now. The third week of December, but autumn rains haven't given way yet to winter snow. Ryou splashes through puddles, dives under eaves and overhanging buildings in the skinny trenchcoat he thinks belongs to his Other. Maybe the world is broken, he thinks, maybe things will never work naturally again, but he doesn't care very much. What does one raindrop care about the world?
Finally the rain drives him back to his apartment. Soaked to the skin with his shoes full of water, he drops into a chair at the table in the kitchen. He leans on his hand and he waits for something, but he doesn't really know what he's waiting for.
After a while the door bangs open. "Baka," his Other growls, "you took my good coat." It's soaked through, his Other doesn't want it like this, does he? Ryou takes it off, offers it; when his Other's fist knocks him down, he isn't surprised.
Cold, wet rain falling outside, and Ryou is cold and wet, and it's dark inside the little apartment until his Other turns on the light. "Baka," he says again, "always sitting in the dark." He pulls food out of the refrigerator, and he doesn't say anything when Ryou takes some and sits down to eat it.
It's warmer when you eat something, and the light feels kind of good on Ryou's face. He cleans the dishes in the sink before he goes to the bedroom to take off his wet clothes. His Other's rummaging around in there. Ryou doesn't look, but he hears him, putting something away inside the closet. He doesn't say anything either, just lies down on the bed naked and waits.
He waits, and after a while his Other comes over and joins him. "Worthless," he growls, "you're worthless. Useless – don't do anything," but his arms feel warm around Ryou's body, and it doesn't hurt too much any more when they couple. He comes quickly, then he rolls away and falls asleep at once.
Ryou rolls over close to him and puts his arms around his sleeping body. He can feel his Other's breath against his face, feel the rise and fall of his chest under his own arms. It's good and warm together in bed like this, and when Ryou falls asleep, his own breath is quiet.
